MY new x1900xr has turned my pc into an easy bake oven. The card sits at 47c idle and 91c load. Thats insane! Is this right? I wasnt real crazy about thowing my new video card into my water cooling loop....but I wanted to give it a shot. Now Im siting at 38c idle and 62c load with water cooling. Im just worried because now the air coming about of my radiator burns when I but my hand in front of it....hench easy bake oven. Man this card is hot. Any way here is the million dollar question. Im all out of Ram sinks and was wondering if it was safe to run this card without anything on the ram. So far everything runs fine without them. Besides.....the memory pads on the stupid stock cooler were barely making contact....and some were not touching at all.
 
From what i recall GDDR3 doesn't get very hot at all, does your case have good airflow with teh water coolnig? Buy a mini fridge and stick your reservior in it? lol

What watercooling setup have you got? I was thinking about throwing my X1900 into the loop (Swiftech Apex kit with Storm and DFI NB blocks) using the Maze4 I have, but now I'm not so sure.
 
OMG, put ramsinks on that!!! Gosh, I would have to hurt you if you killed that card. How could you?!?

Also, 60C is "safe" for a video card. I think 100C is the danger zone for video cards (they are much more resilient than CPUs).
 
um. ppl are running the 1900 in SN25Ps so there really shouldn't be a heat prob b/c in a SFF that much heat would create MAJOR issues. are you ocing? might just be a crappy card.
 
The ram will actually run cooler without the factory heatsink on it.

To OP, what size rad are you using? My card is w/c'd in same loop as cpu with a dual 120 rad and doesn't go over 50c...
 
Im running an Asetek WaterChill CPU Cooling Kit with a 120mm rad box. Im using the WaterChill VGA cooler VGA02/P1. Im just real surprised how hot my x1900xt got with the stock cooling.....but from what Im reading 50c idle and 90c load is normal on this card. must be the 48 pixel shaders. So do you think Im good without the ram sinks with my water cooling setup.......or am I just looking for trouble. From what I have read some people say that the ram sinks are for show....and some say they are needed. If this card was a x850 I would say screw the ram sinks since ati didnt cool them with the stock cooler. But since its a x1900xt and I think the memory runs at 2.0 v.....Im just not sure. I guess I need an experts advice. Or an educated guess.
 
I guess Ill go with-out ram sinks for now. Anybody know what the thermal theshold is for the samsung memory on these cards.
 
I think these cards just run super hot. Also whats your ambient temps, B/C that plays a huge factor in W/Cing. My X1800XT runs so hot its scary. I am not sure whats up, but everything points to seem thats its stable :D
