This is my brothers machine that has the problem. He has a program that tells him how many amps the video card is pulling. Its not a fan because we checked them all and the noise was coming from the PSU.
His setup is:
X2 3800
Antec NeoHE 500w (1 week old)
Asus A8N-SLI prem
2 x 1024 patriot ram
Sapphire x1900xt
Creative X-FI
3 HD's
Op 165 o/ced to 2.7ghz
Antec TruePower II 480W
Asus A8N32-SLI DLX
2x 1024 patriot
Connect3D x1900xt o/cec to XTX
X-Fi
2 DVD drives
3 case fans
3 HD's....
and I have no problems.
After installing my x1900xtx this evening (side-grading from a 7900GT for folding at home) I am getting a really annoting whine as well (Seasonic 600W PSU). At first I thought it was from the card, but it may well be from the psu. It certainly is not the fan, since I am watercooling CPU + GPU.
Is the takeaway point from this thread that I should replace (RMA?) whichever component is the whiner?
edit: at this point my system is not booting anymore. The EXT_PWR led is on. Using a separate 400W PSU for the water pump etc. and powering only mobo + gfx card with the 600 W Seasonic did not work.
