X1900 versus X1800 3DMark06

Rather impressive. Still room to OC also. And coming out earlier than next gen Nvidia cards.
 
ok, 5300 for a next gen card and my OC'd 7800GTX (256mb) gets only 400pts less?

OCed last get card gets significantly less than stock new gen card. Seems fine to me. What were you expecting? Also this is the lower end new gen card whereas the GTX was the flagship for some time.

I think this card could be good......

Definetly on my shopping list. Hopefully this card is able to run Oblivion butter smooth. My only hope is that it will run cooler than the previous X1800 cards, any info on this? I don´t feel comfortable to slap water cooling on over 600€ card, atleast not right away :D
 
I'm impressed with the memory bandwidth performance/efficiency. Despite the X1900 having over 25% less RAM bandwidth than the OC'd X1800, they get similar scores :cool:
 
I think the new ringbus mem controller might be showing its true potential here. Given that the primary confirmed change is a shift from 16 to 48 shading units, the available bandwidth seems more than enough to keep the core well fed.

Edit: Remembered that R520 doesn't support Fetch4, while X1900 (X1300, X1600 also) do. Thus X1900 is using DST (depth stencil texture) in 3DMark06, just like nV, while X1800s aren't. This would increase the X1900 score, as it does for 6/7 series nVs.
 
Why not ignore the 3dmark score and move to actual gaming performance? Are you really sitting at home playing 3dmark06 all day or do you want your computer to play games? I personally think that real gaming performance is the correct benchmark, and for cards like this high res. + high AA would be a good benchmark.

To be honest, I think this test is somehow biased towards nvidia cards. My overclocked x1800xt at 700/800 only got 4576. Thats bs if an overclocked 7800gtx beat me if I get just under 10k in 3dmark05. BTW this was on the new Catalyst 6.1 drivers.

Do I need to install the AMD dual core drivers or any dual core fixes. I dont think my score seems right.
 
and this is only the xt, not the xtx? but then, the only difference between xt and xtx is stock clock speeds right? so it doesnt matter if u oc, but stock score would b higher :p
