Hey guys,

I need an answer quick. I'm currently very confused about the ATI video card line up.

Question:
1) can someone please layout the differences between x1900xt, x1900xtx, and x1900 Cross Fire Edition. As in, their relative performance or equivalence.. I've been raiding newegg, tomshardware and anandtech, and of course here... and maybe i missed something or just ignorant, but they all seem to be equivalent...? All at 16 pipeline and stuff, only clock speed are minor difference?

2) Not really a video card question, but since i'm making a post, what they hey. Someone just told me that to use ram in dual channel, you must purchase rams that states that they are compatible for dual channel.... I thought so long as the chips are identical, it will be used in dual channel on your motherboard. (ie, doesn't HAVE to state that it is dual channel)

These are somewhat urgent questions I need answered as an offer just came up to me is so good, I need to chose soon. xD I would probably find the answers for all these if i have more time to research, but i need to answer like now in the next hour or so.

XT is 625 core /1450 memory
XTX is 650/1550

Yes, only clock speeds. The crossfire edition is a "master" card for Crossfire. ie. Ati's "SLI" with two cards offering beleeding edge performance. It has a compositing chip to combine the images. It runs with XT speeds, and as such, an XT might be the way to go for Crossfire. The cross fire edition may very well not clock as high as an XTX, making you squander the extra clocks in dual card mode.

Dual memory kits are nice in that the chips are probably roughly same week etc. Not required. Having the same chips in general should put you in that much better shape. Considering, vastly different DDR has worked together provided you deal with the limits of the slower stick in both MHz and ram timings.
 
As the above poster said, XT and "Crossfire" cards are at 625 Core and 1450 mem.
The XTX is clocked at 650 and 1550.

In a "Crossfire" configuration, you need 1 regular card, and 1 Crossfire card. As with the 1900's, a crossfire card is a tad slower then an XTX card, but if you have an XTX paired with one, you will still take advantage of that extra clock speed.

Some people seem to think that pairing an XTX with a crossfire will lower the XTX's clocks, but this is untrue. Spelled out in the ATI Crossfire FAQs.

Those are my choices. :) I think I'm gonna settle for the crossfire version.

I just pulled the trigger on a crossfire edition for crossfire. Should be mint.

With his prices he must have a connection. But I just bought a coupon on ebay for dell. 25% Small business stacked with $60 off of $500, and it came to 412 after tax & ship.

That is correct. Although, I do not know how exactly he (my buddy) can get it for those prices... but I doubt it's anything illegal though. Dude would refuse to tell me exactly how haha...

Yeah I used that deal on a X1900XT for $378 taxed/shipped.
 
best buy and circuit city employees can buy the 1900xt for $330. i also think that they come shipped free and tax free. i just built an amd 64 3800 system and i'm about to pick up one of these. what i need is a way to get a dell 2405fpw for less than $700 or at least less than $800 after tax. costco has it for $799+tax. cant go wrong with their return policy though.
 
BTW the Crossfire edition X1900 master does not down clock the X1900 XTX since their clocks are close. You can easily bump up your master card to XTX levels and be running what amounts to dual XTXs.
