Warning ATi Fan Boys may get angry, try not to Flame (try alittle).

X1900 launch analysis by Nvidia (Sideshow Pics)

So Nvidia think they have a better product with there 7800GTX 512 Videocard, wounder what ATi would say about this.

I dont know how they come up with those numbers, other sites say X1900 series is better then 7800 series.

It is, quite easily, what with it being the most advanced GPU out atm. It just costs more.
What's the point in this? nVidia having a dig? Grow up, stop being bitter and make a better GPU then. Simpletons.

i'm not going to pick sides, but NVIDIA's PR people are pretty shady when it comes to interpreting results. some of those numbers are so close that they're well within the margin of error, and in other slides, NVIDIA is only ahead without AA/AF, but significantly behind when the eye candy is turned on (and why wouldn't you turn it on if you just dropped 600+ bucks on a video card?).

i don't see what the big deal is. if you're going to drop that much cash on a video card, you'd expect the best performance, but apart from some pretty graphs, i doubt the majority of people would ever notice the difference. people pick sides and get all defensive if someone says something about the red or the green side, but they should just shut it and buy the fastest that they can afford. if it's red this time, who cares if it's green next time? if it lets me play my games, i'm happy.

Dude, in all honesty....You are never going to see a difference. If you take a Lamborghini and a Corvette out in the suburbs, where are you going to take it that is actually going to test its power? Seriously, in my mind, all it is is just numbers. Period.

I completely agree

Where the hell do Nvidia and ATI show all these whack presentations that keep popping up?

Nvidia lost me after the ti4600 and they will probably never get me back. It's not that I don't like their product.....they do have some really good stuff. I don't like the company as a whole. Their PR & advertising divisions can kiss my butt.

I'm looking at those graphs, and they're benchmarking them at 1920x1400. Is that a normal res nowadays for those on widescreen?

I don't think those slides are from nVidia themselfs but from Hammer Legion Members its seems too crappy to be from a Company like nV. And the Slides are in an ATi Fan site???.

mispelling :D

I'm an ATi guy, always have been but back in december i had $300 to spend on a video card and guess what? I bought a 7800GT =P...oh well, i'm not going to stick by a company when my money was better spent on a different card, maybe ATi next time around

bs the IQ of the 1900 is way better than the 7800 series. maybe the 7800 512 is faster but so what? I want IQ over speed any day. btw I have no loyalties I just want the best looking graphics.

heh those slides are pretty funny.

I can't believe they're actually comparing cards with a $150(if not $450) price difference and with limited availability. Not to mention you'd expect the cards to be shown in the best light possible so any informed person looking at those would likely take them with a grain of salt.

Also looking over some of their charts they didn't get all the facts correct. For example compositing chips are only required on certain levels of ATI cards. 1600's and I believe 1300's don't use a master card setup.

Oddly enough those charts only really seem to be pushing SLI or 7800-512. If these were for a sales push I'd expect them to be showing off the cards that are more likely to be sold: 7800-256, 6800's etc. It's hard to deny that selling $500+ video cards won't be a significant market share for any company.

So why does Nvidia keep having to show these things? I for one have never seen ATI do the same.

I mean they were stretching with the whole SLI vs Crossfire slide. They forgot to put on 'Has Nvidia Logo on card? SLI= Yes Crossfire = NO?????'

Oh and they dont even take into account the AA+AF figures which show, as single cards, they get spanked most of the time.

I also notice the HL2 Lost coast benchmarks where they say 'Beaten at their own game'. Thats one game there. How many games out there have the 'Best played on Nvidia' logo slapped into the intro? and how many does ATI perform better on?

Yeah. Hoping we wouldnt notice are we.

Slideshows like this are childish and unprofessional.

Slide 24 "7800 GTX 512 Available Now" –Hahahahaha

They just happen to forget that the x1900xt(x) is available much more widely and cheaper. :)

All propaganda.

I looked at the driver versions listed in the reviews..the ATi is listed at cat 6.1 with driver 5.13b...thats nowhere even close to being true.

I call BS. This same site showed a slideshow by ATI on the 7800gtx 512, and it was exactly the same poor quality crap. It even was styled in the EXACT same way.

Techpowerup puts this crap up to get more people on their site, because controversy always attracts attention.

Got to love all the PR BS. When ATI or Nvidia make up these slideshows you know they are gasping for air. Too bad they are usually 100 feet underwater and it doesnt help.

Ummm?

It just doesnt matter. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I have always had nVidia products. BUT I still cant rationalize spending 1500 dollars for an SLI setup with two 7800GTX 512s. Plus you can never find them.

The competition is so close it just doesnt matter. I'll tell you what. If ATI comes out with a single solution that can get close or better my 256s that I have in SLI then guess where I'm going.

Both companies do this, it is a way each company deals with competition.

There is really no arguing with the numbers, no matter which side you are on or who has the highest.

You are talking like ATi doesn't do the same thing. Actually ATi's PR is ten times worse, they never show actual numbers, it's all percentage and usually completely way off from what the reviewers show. At least NVidia used actual reviews for it's slides...

You know, I'm seeing more and more people post about peculiarities about ATI AA. They say that up close, AA is performed very nicely, but as distance increases, the AA can look like it's not even turned on with jaggies present all over the place. My "theory" is, ATI's drivers/hardware does not apply AA to the entire scene for the entire distance. There might be a cutoff point. BTW, these are people who switched from GTX's to X1800/1900's and are complaining. There is a thread over at AT you can check out. I believe Nvidia takes such a big hit when AA is applied because it applies the AA to the entire scene on the entire distance. Full scene AA. ATI just might be cutting corners and this may be why the performance hit is substantially lower on ATI hardware.
Don't take my word for it, yet. I wish to look into this some more. I am considering purchasing a X1900XT, but not until the 7900 comes out so I can check out prices and benchies. This is why I am curious about this AA thing.
Anyway, I will post back with anything I find out, unless you folks think I should start a new thread should it warrant one.

keys.

The average 1100 hour failure rate for the 7800GTX 512 is pretty alarming. These things are still ticking time bombs.

no one has proven that yet.

Way better eh? Do you own one? Have you seen screenshots? They look identical, the hq af is a feature that you can only see under a microscope, let alone when moving. Faster is king it seems.

You said it perfectly. Nvidia's PR has been shady. Its true the R580 is what the R520 was, but still once O/Ced the 520 core can preform great, and can pull even with or ahead of the Current 7800GTX 512 cards which is sad to say nowhere to be found. Also ATI's AA and AF seem to better than Nvidias this time around. One thing that nvidia is correct is SLI is still better than CF, but IMO Its beacuse Nvidia has more time with drivers and chipsets.

Yes it's pretty funny to see that the people who made this animation can't read properly. One sheet says 200 gflops of shader power, the other says 5.2 tflops of total compute power. Considering the fact that the RSX has 1.8 tflops of compute power.......... I know it's all pr talk, but these numbers must come from somewhere.

But anyway: I've had a good laugh for today looking at these slides. I wonder when Ati will come up with their version. Does anyone know for whom these sheets are ment? Are they made to brainwash salespeople?

I agree with stelleg151. It's funny how the slides "made by ATi" bashing nVidia and the slides "made by nVidia" bashing ATi that are hosted only on techpowerup.com are written and styled in the same fashion.

Here is a good look at all three.

How come no one else has noticed this? I don't think ATi or nVidia made either of these.

Just a bunch of losers over at techpowerup trying to get people on their site.

Ultimately, ATi has a slightly faster card. nVidia has to push hard to keep a fan base and sell their high end cards when something better (if only slightly) is availible. The same was true with ATi when nVidia was on top.

My new X1900 XT arrives tomorrow, so I don't care :p .

Well all this bs coupled with the extreme fanb0yism is to much for me to handle. Like I said be4, good product, bad people.

I agree. I definetly think its Techpowerup trying to get traffic.

If TPU is indeed making these slides, those are some big claims, they even put the manufacturer of them as Nvidia/ATI.
