I have been thinking upgrading to one of these cards for the rig in the sig. Anyone made a similar upgrade and have experiences to share? Just cross-referencing benches at the moment. Thanks in advance.
 
i was just about to fire up a legacy cf rig using the msi 790 board, but let me put it to you this way, the last time i ran x19 cf i could run fear 1920x1080 no aa 16af with an x2 4400@2.7ghz. now with an e6850 (i know...) and a 3870, i get the same rez and settings with smother frame rates.
 
Went from two 512mb X1900's in Crossfire to two 256mb 3850's in Crossfire, and the 3850's KILLED the X1900's.

I then upgraded a couple weeks later to 3870's when they became available for real, and it's even better thanks to faster clocks and more RAM.

Basically, one 3870 is a bit faster than two X1900's, while using a quarter of the power and producing a quarter of the heat. And at a quarter of the cost, compared to what I paid for my X1900CE and XT back in 2006.

Plus it has DX10, HDMI, UVD, etc.
 
Thanks for the info Croak. It sounds like a pretty worthy upgrade from what you guys are saying, which confirms what I have been reading around the net. Gonna try and sell the X1900 setup and purchase a 3870 or two.
