X1900 Benches!

I wouldn't say that they are disappointing! X1900 is the card for F.E.A.R.! This is just a refresh product anyway, I wasn't expecting it to blow current top of the line X1800,512 GTX away.

Keep in mind this is the GT not the GTX in ATi's hand. The high end card is to be the X1900XTX. That could be a different story.

i'm surprised the benches aren't....well....higher.
the xtx is supposed to be the same card but with higher frequencies...

I suppose I'll wait for some more extensive benchmarks, but to be honest I'm disappointed. I hope nvidia has something strong arriving this next generation...

I think the 7900GTX will be about 150% faster than the 512 7800GTX. Either way judging from these benchmarks I think ATI is in trouble. If we Give the X1900XTX a 20 % advantage over this one, either way it will probably lose to the 7900GTX if it meets my expectations. If it exceeds them well... :D I'll take a pair.

It's bottlenecked by the system it's being run on. Put it on something faster and I bet the X1900 scores go up and distance themselves from the 7800.

Bottlenecked? They were running test at 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 and 4aa so I doubt that.

This is only a refresh product. If it were drastically faster they would have called it a XXX2000XSXEXXX.

48 pixel pipes indeed

Now we know that pixel shaders != pipelines.

7800 GTX is a 16 pipeline card. That's a fact. So will the 7900 probably.

Pixel shaders!= pipes! 7800 has 24 pixel shader processors, but only 16 pipes.

Anyways I'd wait for full benches with finished drivers guys.

This should double the GTX in some instances like FEAR. It's heavy on the shader power.

I'm having thoughts of selling my x1800xt and getting a 1900xtx, but my decision is pending a good review over here at [H]. Brent and Kyle, don't fail me now!!

BTW its IMHO that the only way to really have a conclusive benchmark would be to run the new gen of vid cards (x1900, G71) and the current vid cards (regardless of ram size) and run single and dual card tests. This is necessary i think for those of us who are wanting to attain high framerates in video games. This I think wont happen till the end of next month

Just my 2 cents.

Hardocp's review wont tell you anything.

Except maybe, highest playable settings will change 2% or something.

Remember when 7800 came out and you could barely tell it was faster by Hardocp's review?

IMHO I think they will conduct their next tests with feedback from their last review (1800 CF) in mind. If not, well thats just as fine.

There are lots of variables now that need to be addressed, such as testing the Ati cards of Nvidia controlled mobos, and vice versa. Conclusions about the way people will inevitably mix and match mobos and video cards will probably not be seen, but I think it could come in handy for those looking to upgrade certain components instead of buying new rigs.

These new x1900 cards should hopefully come with updated drivers, which means we can probably look at another set of Cat drivers from Ati within weeks to enhance performance for the 1800 and 1900 series.

Here's to hopin x1800 CF will not suck too much against x1900 CF!! :D

A 7800 what compred to what?

Terra...

Im, just saying Hardocp system does not highlight differences.

Even if you get a resolution jump on highest playable settings, say from 1024X to 1280X, it doesn't really tell you much.

More likely you wont even get that. A card 10 or 20% faster will not cause "highest playable settings" to change any.

That's one problem, among many, with highest playable setting benchmarking.

Yes, but rumor has it that the XTX is only 25MHz faster overall on the GPU and RAM (50MHz DDR). I'd be amazed if that translated into more than 5%, honestly- sorry to be such a pessimist about it, but just look at the scale!

BTW, where in Jersey are you?

In new games it should be faster. I dont see how Nvidia will make up a possible ~100% difference in FEAR.

UE3 is another place the architecture should really shine.

You are probably right that it should be better optimized to handle current and future games perhaps a better analogy of sorts like comparing the clockspeed of Nvidia's 5 or 6 series to the 7 series and even the X800 series ATI cards to the X1k series in current games such as FEAR Quake 4.

It shows how the clockspeed is either slower or around the same but the performance is up across the board.

The dailytech benches seem suspect from what I'm reading on other forums too.

I think people said X1800XT is known to already be faster than the supposed X1900XT benchmarks in some of those games. So unless ATI released a slower card..it doesn't make too much sense.

About Battlefield 2:

Yeah, seems very odd...
as it follows from their numbers 1900xt gains only 7,5% from gtx256 score at that settings.
Though looking over xbitlabs and FS reviews, 1800xt beat gtx256 by a margins of 24% and 38% respectively
( the scores are: 69 - 86 and 58 - 80 resp.).

^^ I dunno what you are talking about. If a card can do a higher resolution than what the other can, of course it means it has better performance in that game. Pixels don't come free in some video card add-on, well besides SLI and XFire and even still, it aint free! I think its a very good indicator on how well a card performs. If a card gets choked at 1024X800, you know it doesn't have the bandwidth for higher requirement games.
