X1800XT Thottleing?

Stock voltage? I can't get past 715 core without lowing my scores. I hope a good BIOS or something comes out for these cards soon.

Your CPU is @ 2,5Ghz. isn't it? (fsb 228)

My A64 3500+@2,5Ghz. + XT@722.25/810 i can't get further than 9500 3DM05. Could your dual core X2 make this difference? It's 500 points...

Btw, i have 2x1Gb mem, could leaving out 1Gb make a difference?

Yes it can... His X2 has 1mb of cache per core where you only have 512kb. He is running much tighter timings than you ever can do with a 2gig set..

How are some of you getting 850 on the mem? Isnt the theoretical limit on the memory 833?

Yes the rated speed is 833, anything above is overclocking luck-o-the-draw.

Did some testing. I put the pc on the balcony (it's cold outside :) ), opened the case, put the XT fanspeed on 100% and did some benching.
760mhz. on the core was perfectly stable (didn't go further), but this gained nothing over 722,5 mhz. (in 3DMark05).
Raising Vcore to 1.35 didn't help either.

So it looks like there is definately some throttling going on. (maybe i sould have tried raising Vcore more but it started to rain :) )

How'd you get the fan speed to be on 100% all the time, I wanna do that too. Someone said before that there is a theoretical limit on the RAM speed.

Driverheaven's overclocker.

Btw, i made the same misstake as Nunyabiz did, keep the CCC @ default, then the OC tool works well above 700.

Alright guys, I've had my XT for a few days now and oc'ing it at the moment.

I can't get the ATItool to work stable over anything like 618mhz core, screens goes all crap if not a system freeze. That's with CCC at defaults. I can't get my hands on the Driverheaven tool 'cause their site is down!

With the rest of my pc tweaked and the CCC overdrive on max I get 9327 running 3Dmark '05.

I've started another thread in the overclocking department!

I think that ATI tool is not completly working with the XT just yet, but W1zzard is working on it. The XT clocks slower in 2d and faster in 3d, however ATI tool just seems to set 2d with the XT.

Here's something I noticed.

With the CCC OC screen, with default values loaded and the ATItool loaded next to it. Any changes made in ATItool are reflected in the CCC (with the preference 'apply clock immediately' check in ATItool). Evidence that it is applying 2D on the fly?

Now, if I set CCC to default, set ATItool to something that it will not crash at, say 610.2/711 and then run a 3D program such as 3DMark05. Exit out of it while running something high in 3D, and immediately look at ATItool - click on it if it is out of focus. On mine it says the Core is 378Mhz and memory 693Mhz. Open CCC and see that indeed my core and memory have been downclocked. The gpu temp is almost 70C or higher at this point, and any changes to speed in ATItool makes it rise pretty quick. A wise time to reboot and the CCC default settings are restored.

Something way too strange with that ATItool...

Using the DH tool and stock voltages, I can't get the core above 695.25 and mem 801 without 3DMark05 becoming unstable. Are you guys running the fan 100% or doing some other trickery ;) ?!

Don't use the ATiTool as I can't even get it stable with a 10mhz overclock........
