X1800XT Thottleing?

Is anyone else having a problem overclocking their X1800XT? Mine will run fine up to 700 core / 850 mem but seems to throttle down when the core is raised above 701. I have gotten to 725 core but the score comes out lower than stock.

The card is watercooled and never goes above 40c.

Do you have a BBA card or a Sapphire card? My BBA card is having significant issues overclocking at all even using ATI's own overdrive tab. I cannot overclock the memory at all using the overdrive or even that 3rd party app. I just get a light blue/green screen of death.

BBA model and works fine with the overdrive tab but I want more!

*grabbing by shirt*

You can't have anymore!!

Stupid..but I can't wait to actually use my card and actually have the option to use overdrive :D

I have not seen that. I have hit 730ish and have not seen it throttle down at all. Did it happen before you were on water? I have not been able to go above 830 on the mem, if you back the mem down to say 800 does it still do it?

R1ck, I see the throttleing that you are talking about. I did not see it before with the cat 5.10a drivers but now I see it with the 5.11. My performance goes lower. The setting that I reached 10k, now give me 9700 and higher still stops at 9700. I am going to try and find the 5.10a drivers and check again....

What is HUA? Mine is still slowing down.

Head Up ASS. I had CCC overclock in 3d checked so it was making it 690 800 no matter what I set with the overclock tool :)

Just received my XT :) and it reaches max CCC OC perfectly stable (690/800). But now i wanted to use the Driverheaven OC tool to see how much further this baby will go but i can't set any number above the default speeds with it. As if the speeds are locked or something.
Any idea how to solve this?

I cannot uncheck "enable Ati overdrive clocks for 3d apps only" in the CCC, it's grayed out, is this maybe the problem?

(running Cat 5.11)

Just select defaults in CCC, then the OC tool should work

Still a no-go. :(

The files that came with the OC tool (such as krn32 etc.), do they have to be set in "C://windows/system32" or doesn't that matter. (now they're in the same map as the OC tool is in)

Should just be in the same directory as the exe. If you set defaults in CCC overdrive section, save setting, reboot, and then try the overclock tool?

Still not working. I even did a CCC uninstall, this doesn't help either. :(
The OC tool simply won't go beyond the default speeds.

Will try Cat 5.10a later.

may be out of place but since you're WCing that card you're not using your stock X1800XT cooler? would you want to sell it to me?

Ok, it's working now. :) I did use the arrows, not manually typing the numbers. ;)

Ah yes, those silly arrows will screw you up, glad you got it working! :)

Looks like i see the same happening R1ckCa1n. 725 at the core gives me a lower score than 700. (Sapphire X1800XT)

How much lower? It happend to me as well, but turning off overdrive fixed it.

Turning off vpu recovery seems to help, although i've changed too much else in the meantime, so i'm not sure.

However, the best score i've reached so far is 9480pts.
A64 3500+ 2,2@2,4ghz
X1800XT Core @ 722,25 - Mem @ 810.

I can get the mem @ 830, but this lowers the score with ~100pts. Increasing Vmem doesn't help, the score stays lower.

Btw, 9480pts. on my system/speeds, is that normal you think or on the low site? ( i was expecting ~9700 or so )

What brand are your X1800XT's? Are any of you running the OEM Connect3D model from Newegg?

Yeah, I would expect approx 9700, but when I get home i will check my database as I am at 2.5ghz cpu and should be close . Do you have all settings to performance in CCC?

I have a BBATI.

Yep.

Apparently both CCC and the ATI Overclock tool relax memory timings substantially. People are getting much better 3dm05 scores at *lower* memory clocks using the latest ATITool beta here.

Even the slightest OC on the core with Ati tool (when auto-find max core goes from 625>645) results in a messed up yellow 3D view screen. Ati tool says "no errors found" but the 3D view screen is full with yellow artifacts + a system lock-up.

Overclocking with the CCC or Driverheaven tool gives no problems, easily beyond 700mhz. My XT is 24/7 stable @ 720 core.

If you read the thread there are some bugs in the beta 9 release that should be addressed in the beta 10 release. For now I'm waiting on a better release and happy to settle for my CCC auto-overdrive of 690/800 (max).

Stupid question but how the hell do you disable the freaking overdrive once you enable it? Mine is greyed out and can't change it.

It indeed seems that once unlocked, you can't relock it. Uninstall/re-install CCC helps ofcourse.

Why would you need to do this? Does it interfere with other OC programs?

What are you guys using for cooling? My idle temps are too high so I either need to AS5 the stock cooler or go for a better one...

It apparently does affect OC when using a different program. I am using an AquaComputer Twinplex Pro waterblock and it holds my temps in the high 30's idle / low low 40's load.

Nice, but no water here...lian li quiet case with 3x120s and all that...I have a venting 120 right by the card so the Zalman might be ideal. Water...Mmmm.

Did you build this with the RDX200? Did you get your OCZ running to spec on that MB? OCZ is shipping me new sticks cuz my 2x1gb 3200 PT EL couldn't hang at over 166 !

722.25 core 810 mem =9950 for me, thats with cat 5.10a, I will check again in a few minutes with cat 5.11

722.25 810 mem with cat 5.11=9972 Sorry it took so long.

Yeah I got it running on the RDX200 but not with the 2gig set of OCZ as they cost me 500 points in 3dm05 even with the same overclock as with my PC4000 VX RAM. I can run a nice tight 2-2-2-5 @ 255 fps 1:1 with my VX RAM so I guess I will wait until a good set of 2g ram is made. Go figure.
