X1800XT Quake 4 artifacts

Is anyone else having similar problems with their x1800xt?

Game settings maxed (ultra quality, etc.) at 1280x1024.

I don't get these artifacts when using high quality instead of ultra quality. I have seen people having problems with Quake 4 and ATI cards on other forums. The card is also not overclocked, and my Opteron 175 is at stock speeds as well. I am running on a AN8 Ultra with ram being Corsair 2048-3500llpro.

I am wondering if I should RMA the card, or if this is simply a driver issue. (only been using the card for 3 days now) Could it be that the ram itself is faulty, and that other games are not utilizing the full 512mb? I have absolutely no artifact problems or otherwise with games such as Half-Life 2, AOE3, Battlefield2, etc.

Oh yeah, sorry about missing that important piece of information. I am running on Catalyst 5.13.

Whats wierd is when I disabled Catalyst AI the artifacts actually got worse. Performance was also in the 30-40's instead of 60+. When I use advance AI a lot of the artifacting is gone, but a lot of the special effects do not look like they should.

I am going to revert to the 5.11's and let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for the help so far. Its frustrating to have these problems with a $500 card. :(

I never personally tested with AI off so I wasnt sure about that, however 5.11s do work because I just played through the game and areas were there were artifacts were fine with the 5.11s

its a driver issue....i was having the same sorta problems with my new X850XT on the quake 4 demo

Has anyone found a good workaround or fix for this problem yet?, I tried using the 5.11 drivers but the game would not even run. I runs with the 5.12 drivers but Itried every possible setting with no change in the artifacting and I just ran out of options.

I finished the game using the 5.11's, even went back to the areas it was freezing and they were fine.

Not sure what else you can do at this time.

looks like drivers or you overclocked it to high.

He says he didn't overclock in his original post. ^^ ALL the way up there.

I'm assuming you got these screens through the printscreen button or some other method, so I'm not going to say it's got anything to do with your monitor, but did you try renaming the main .exe for Q4? That might fix it; at least you'll know if Catalyst AI is to blame. Sometimes just disabling AI still causes AI-related problems, which is just weird.
