x1800xt overclocking...

just got my x1800xt 512mb...love it. runs everything just great at stock speeds. So, just for kicks, I flashed the PE bios to the card. That worked fine (except ATI tool still shows the card at 600/700 and not 700/800....however, Overdrive requests the card at 700/800 when a 3d app is detected).

I was messing with the voltages and clocks in ATI Tool...and got to wondering. What are the max safe voltages for this card on the memory and gpu? I'm using the stock cooler that's been lapped with AS Ceramique. I also added sinks to the VR section of the board (going to replace that dinky red one sometime in the near future too).

I can run the card at 740/840 with core voltage of 1.5v, mem of 2.13v. It hit 90c after playing for a while. I've heard 90c is nothing to worry about though.

so...is anyone running more than 1.5v on the stock HSF?

and Sapphire gipped me and I got 1.2ns chips instead of 1.1. They still hit 1.6Ghz with ease...but damn...I wanted even more room to play :mad:
 
Ya mine still showed stock after the flash but as you said overdrive requests the higher clocks now...

I haven't even tried to go any higher yet, i just got teh card the other day and have been pretty busy

This card seems to respond very well to increases in the core clock from what I've seen. My res is limited to 1280x1024 though, so even at stock speeds it handles everything I throw at it with ease.

I threw 1.52v at the gpu and that got me to almost 760 on the core. I dare not try anything more though until I get better cooling. With the card hitting 90c when oc'd it doesn't sit too well with me. Rivatuner showed that when a 3d app was launched, the gpu core increased from 1.275v to 1.45v and the clock speed went from 600/700 to 700/800. So I feel relatively safe giving it 1.5v.

I was just curious how high people push them on stock cooling.

I getting about 43 idle and 62 full load

are you increasing the voltages any? Your card runs cooler than mine does...by a LOT. I even spent 2 hours the other night lapping the heatsink. could be the airflow in my case, but I have a 120mm fan in the front intake blowing straight to the card.

I've read about some people taking the shroud off the top of the heatsink, and putting a 80 or 90mm fan on there instead and getting better results...so one of these days I may try that.

I am not manually increasing them, they might be increased through overdrive because of the bios flash, but i did not check it yet
I took my hsf off and replaced the goop with Arctic Silver, thats about all i've done


Also, i have massive airflow in my case, three 80mm's flowing in (two on front, one on side) and three 80mm's flowing out (two on rear, one on top)
