Hi, I'm having serious problems with the games F.E.A.R. and COD2.

my system specs are

Windows XP 64 (fully updated)
Directx 9.0c
AMD Athlon 64 3200 @ 2.2 ghz
Single channel Corsair XMS twin 512 = 1 gig or ram :D
Sapphire X1800XT 256 meg (catalyse 6.3 drivers)
A8n-vm (on-board video off)
550 watt PSU
WD raptor 36.7

I read over other postes in different forums that have almost my same set up (Video Card, CPU, Ram {give or take a gig}) playing fear and there FPS never dropped below the 25 mark (they had pictures displayed) when i run Fear my ending benchmark score show that I go below the 25 mark 40-50% of the time. I reinstalled DirectX, changed my setting in CCC and settings in game. I changed setting in game to low and still hit below the 25 FPS mark 40-50% of the time with different CCC settings. My CCC was turned to off to HQ to test it and still nothing happened. If we almost have the same system configuration then how come I take a huge hit in performance when the in game benchmark hit the part were the guys are shotting each other?

and in COD2 I have a weird boarder around my game screen (posting a pic).

it's the boarder that is away the screen. How can i fix this? thanks.

Don't know anything about COD2, but w/ FEAR
I think it really likes more than 1gb of ram.

no that's not it becuase my old system

nf7-s2g
athlon XP 3000+
same amount and make of ram
and geforce 6800 played pretty smoothly with medium detail and no AA and AF.

Try the Cat 6.2 Drivers. I know a few people that have had some serious issues with the 6.3's. Also make sure to run driver cleaner after uninstalling the current drivers.

Back, I uninstalled 6.3 ATI drivers with CCC and installed 6.2 and it's still acting the same way. I updated FEAR to 1.02 and the same thing.

I have Windows 64bit and play COD2 and I do not have that border. I am also using the 6.3 drivers with my X1900XTX rig.

I installed windows XP 64 to try it out to see what people are talking about and well i have to agree that people are right when they say wait for SP1 to come out before you make it your desktop OS of choice XD. It's buggy for me and I do see alot of slow downs and so on. The weird boarder problem in COD2 was fixed when i installed Catalyse 6.2 but FEAR is still getting bad framerate.

Cool, I figured the new drivers were causing problems. How bad is the framerate in FEAR. Keep in mind that most people with your processor that you are comparing your scores with have it overclocked. At 2.2ghz your CPU is bottlenecking the card compared to faster CPUs.

Everyone takes a huge hit during the gun fights. Also make sure you turn soft shadows off, it really slows things down.

It's most likely problems with Windows 64bit though.

In the benchmark on fear I get below 25 frames 40-50% of the time. My CPU is overclocked to 2.3 now 230 HTT. umm well if it's OS problems then I'll drop back down to windows XP home my copy of Windows xp professional came from a friend so lol.

Ok, I fixed my problem. I formatted and install Windows XP home and did all the updates, installed catalsyt 6.2, and everything else and FEAR plays nicely :D. I'm doing 1024x768, 4 AA, Temp AA, 8 AF, HQAF, and so on with no frame drop below 40 in the benchmark of fear ^^. Thanks guys I really thank you for all the help you have given me. good luck and GAME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! * Run out of room psyched up*

Yea Win XP 64 bit is still buggy as hell and will not get support. The first supported 64 bit OS will be Vista.
