So what is the preferred method to overclock these things?

I've been running CCC right now, which works fine for 690/800, but I know my core can handle 700 without sneezing. So is there a better way to do this? ATI Tool works OK but it's got some issues right now.

Did that. ATI Tool doesn't like my machine. If I run 3dmark05 after using it to clock up to 700/800 it hard locks during the second test every time. Reboot, use the ATI overclocking util instead, and it's fine. Odd. Guess that's why it's a beta. lol

Guess I'm stuck with overdrive for now. Either that or I could use the ATI overclock utility but I'm not sure how to launch that and on startup and have it auto apply settings.

You need to set voltage. CCC automatically raises voltage when going into 3d. Atitool can too, but has to be told what voltages to set.

I see. Do you know what is the default voltage for 3d mode is at stock speeds (625/750)? Thx

Nope. I loaded the new bios as soon as I got my card, so don't know what the original voltages were...

do uh, how do you know your core can do 700 without sneezing? seems like, it can't to me. unless you've ran your card at that speed just fine before, I don't see how you can think that it will. and if you did have it running at that speed before, then why would you be asking how?

I have run it at 700 before with the ATI overclocking utility. Unfortunately that program doesn't hold settings so I can't make it auto launch and apply a profile on system startup. So it's not really an automatic procedure. Thus why it would be nice if I could figure something else out. ;)

ATI Tool isn't gonna fly. At least not the current beta.
