Hey guys, I should have in my possession tomorrow morning a 22" wide LCD, and I'm wondering if my x1800xt 256mb is up to snuff on most of the games I'm running? I'll be stuck with 4:3 on BF2, so I'm not worried on that too much. CSS I'm guess will run fine if I get the AA down to 2x. WC3:TFT doesn't have any widescreen support, am I correct? The main one I'm worried about is Titan Quest, that already chops up slightly here and there. I was going to order it along with a 8800gts, but I figure that by the time I pay the monitor off, the ATI DX10's and NV 8series refreshes will be out. Anyone?

1800xt should handle it easily...

Oh and you can play BF2 in widescreen although it's a just a hack..

Titan Quest chugs on mine at 1680 x 1050, but it's still playable if you turn down some stuff.

What specifically was turned down? Textures to mid I'd imagine? Anything else?

you can run CS:S maxed out at that res..... easily.... BF2 too.

Older stuff like source should be no problem. Games like Oblivion and upcoming 2007 games will chop at that res unless you turn options down.

I have an ati 1800xt but the 512mb version. Most everything I play runs great at 1600x1200. 1600x1200 is more pixels than 1680x1050 so you should be ok unless the RAM becomes a consideration.

The only games i encounter problems with using a x1800xt @ 1680x1050 is in FEAR: XP and Oblivion (good for 1/2 sliders mostly, no AA, HDR on, full HQ AF). I'm running the 256mb version so this could indicate less performance for me, but overall its a solid card at that resolution - especially since I upgraded to a Conroe :)

who knows it might be a torture test...

I get 30-60fps depending where I am in that game and jerkiness every now and then... During heavy fight scenes it goes down much as high teens...

I have 1900gt btw..

I play with 6x AA in CSS and still average about 80 FPS. You can force a widescreen resolution in BF2 (it doesn't actually extend your view, it cuts off the top and bottom, but at least it won't look distorted. WidescreenGamingForum.com is a good resource.)

In Oblivion, close-to-max settings, HDR, 2x AA and 8x AF I get a playable 20-25 FPS in heavily forested areas.

The x1800xt is just fine for current games at 1680x1050.

I have the 512meg X1800XT and I have never had any problems with games at 1680x1050. BF2 runs and looks good at Med setting with 100% distance setting, World of Warcraft Maxed out runs at 60fps in outdoor areas, only reason it drops FPS is because of lag. Doom 3 runs awsome but I dont remember what setting I chose but it looks awsome and runs well.
