Just got back from fys and saw 2 X1800xls on the shelf $449. I picked on up and walked around for about 30 minutes before putting it down. I currently have and X800xl and a Dell 2005FPW. Will this be much of an upgrade or should I wait for the XT?

Is it worth 449$ for you, or do you like the idea of say "I have a new X1k card" (no disrespect some people do buy for that reason)

I would just forget the ATI X1800XL and pick up a 7800GTX instead for approxamatly the same price.

Called by buddy at FRYs here in Illinios, he looked in the system and saisd they dont even have a SKU for them, so if you saw them they must got on the shelf by magic.

If I see an improvement over my X800XL it might be worth it, but just how much improvement will i see?

I am in Texas and I guarantee you I saw two on the shelf.

The cheapest I have seen it at a b&m is $499 and I am considering that as well. I have a Gigabyte K8nxp-sli and a DFI Ultra-d that i could mod to SLI, so this is a consideration.

It is going to be a pretty big jump in performance... but to be honest if a performance jump is what you care about I would go for a 7800GTX for $50 more. That card beats out the X1800XL by a good margin.

I also care about image quality, and the x1800, in my eyes, looked a little better visually. Does ATI have a good reputation for performance increases through driver updates?

I just got back from Fry's 1/2 hour ago and none were on the shelf. Zippo in the LA County stores.

Fry's carries VisionTek and BBA cards (and odd brand low end cards) and it's possible for Fry's in Texas to have a BBA X1800XL since it's appreared elsewhere already.

Yes it was BBATI and it has 1 year warranty on the box!

This is not meant to bash you by any means, but you bought the card before asking this question? Have you read reviews of the 1800XL? I would say yes and no for the performance jump. There will be some games where it will shine but not worth spending close to $500 when you already have an X800XL, thats unless you plan on selling your current video card.

Reread my post ;) I put it down to come home and investigate. I wish frys had internet available  And i might sell my x800xl, not sure yet. It even has a zalman vf700. Would that fit on the x1800 or 7800?

finally seeing some sign of materializing....
That's great, but who's really going to spend an extra $100-$135 over a 7800 GT for less performance? I know I didn't. ;)

I like to buy From Brick and Morter stores such as frys. If I had bought it and not liked the performance, I have 30 days for a full refund, If I bought it at newegg, %15 restocking fee plus shipping and then waiting for them to give me my money back.

I wished they had internet so i could investigate performance without coming home and then possibly driving back to see both boxes gone. :(

ooh, you mean some access to the internet in the store so you could do some research while there :p ya thatd b nice.

Frys in arlington texas, but now the secret is out! I better run and get one! J/k

Edit: Do you not beleive me or are you looking to get one?

Im gonna call them and see if they even have them, since my friend at frys here in Chicago says they arent in the system yet.

Fry's in City of Industry in Socal hasn't seen them yet as of noon PST. Allstarshop *claims* they're in stock but they're not. They're looking at a Tuesday availability like Monarch, although they will be carrying the ATI retail product with the nice HS pic if anyone cares, unlike the ugly plane connect3D one Monarch has. Frys will also allegedly be carrying the ATI version.

Looks like they're coming folks and I'm such a weak whore I had to order one for my new Shuttle X2 system. And btw guys, the GT doesn't outperform the XL; it depends on what you're getting it for. In what I want to do which is game in 1280x768 with 4xAA/16xAF in F.E.A.R. and CoD2 the XL is the card. Also, interested to see if like the review versions these cards will have the 1400mhz memory. If so, should provide a nice speed bump. Also, the image quality improvement of the X1800 over the GT/X is worth $100-150 imo. Not everyone agrees with that but then again I'm the one buying the card ;)

Well I hope you get someone knowlegable as the frys here are full of people that dont know much. I was constantly told the Intel dual core was much better that the AMD.

Well, I think checking stock is within their talents. I don't think anyone reading these boards is going to Frys for some clown's opinion.

Well i got bounced around to 3 different people and a guy by the name of John told me the only ATI card in stock was the 800XL, he was also in charge of the department didnt sound to bright to me.

Do I need to go buy it and take a picture of it so you will beleive me? lol :D

Id buy one and benchmark it and test it out in games just for funn then probably sell it.

Frys gives 30 days for refunds. Maybe I'll do just that, but thats why I come to [H], so i dont have to do that.....

Oh dont get me wrong i love my SLI setup i went to it from a ATI 800XT-PE, but if i could get a XFIRE mobo and 2 1800XTs id do it right now, just finding them in the next 2 months is gonna be a challange it seems.

Hey marcdaddy, if you PM your phone number I will go there and have a random person read you the box! lol

At this magical store in Texas I was able to buy a Crossfire motherboard (Sapphire); And an master crossfire card with a matching slave card
