Now that Nvidia has released the 7800GS AGP, will ATI answer with an X1800 AGP?

Please, I'm not looking to start a pointless discussion about the evils of AGP, just hoping to get some educated opinions (or better yet, inside info) on a specific question.

I doubt it. I think the recent release of the X1600PRO to AGP format is ATI giving its last bone to us AGP guys... :( The 7800GS isn't even all that good, perhaps even on the same level as X1600PRO...

they have already stated their ill intent twords trying to stay competitive on both platforms, i doubt we'll see an XT or any variation of the XT of the X1800 on AGP, the 7800GS is competing with the 6800GS, which has just about the same speed and for a full $100 cheaper, i doubt ATi has anything to worry about with this product, they still have the X800's on AGP around this price range as well and competes just fine

so to answer your question, maybe, the X1800 might be released on a very bogged down, crippled version, maybe a vanilla version if they have a huge store of cores and are looking for a way to turn it into profit then i can see an AGP, maybe 550 core, 1100 mem, 6/12 set up, maybe keeping their 256 external MB selling that sucker at $300~ should keep the 7800GS well competed against, oh and it'd also have to be 256 GDDR3/DDR

x1600pro is not even close to a 7800gs. the x1600pro and x1600xt are on par or a little better than a 6600gt. you need to look at some benchmarks. the only thing wrong with a 7800gs is that it sucks for its price range. a 6800gs is a much better value. :D

X1600PRO out does the 6600gt by quite a bit, hell the X1600pro can even keep up with the 6800GS in some games

but its not ment to compete with these cards, so of course its going to fall behind

ATi doesn't seem to have any interest in the agp field.

Back in the day there was a incident when a typo gave false hope
that a x1800 agp version would come out. Since then ATi has been
denying any plans towards releasing another AGP card.

But then again, 7800GS was considered a prototype that wouldn't
make it to the market back in the day...

i dont know where you are getting that. all the benchmarks i see have the 6800gs beating the x1600xt which is better than the x1600pro of course. in some games the 6800gs beats the crap out of the x1600xt. the pro version would not even be close in most games. also the x1600xt beats the 6600gt in some games and loses in some games. the x1600pro doesnt beat beat the 6600gt in of the benches i have seen. so the comment from the other guy about the 7800gs being about like a x1600pro is ridiculous. the 7800gs would be nearly twice as fast in some games as an x1600pro.
