X1550 - High Resolution Distortion

I have an ATI x1550 in my fileserver. - Vista x64

Right now, I have it running an older LCD off brand monitor at 1024 x 768 for several months , and it is great.

I tried to connect it to my Samsung 205BW 20" LCD using DVI.

When i turned the resolution to 1680 x 1050, the image was very fuzzy and distorted.

I know the monitor is good, because it is on my main system now, powered by an 4870.

Is this card just not powerful enought to run that resolution?
Can anyone recommend a good low power card that can handle that resolution if the card is the issue?
