Well.. both took a tank hardcore in the past 24 hours. My setup was doing .5BTC/day two days ago, down to .07BTC/day today.

Finally pulled the plug and powered down the entire farm today, with summer electricity rates I've only made a few bucks the past 36 hours. Hoping something drastic happens soon or I'll see you guys next winter!

Yeah, I've been all in on Talkcoin for a day now. The price just spiked up crazy in the last few hours.

Runs a bit lower power than X11 and X13, too.

Well, without getting back in on the magical coin merry-go-round of trying to pick and choose specific coins just because one *thinks* they're going to spike or something, I'm wondering if anyone has considered going back to Scrypt-N at least since it appears it's paying a bit more than X11 or X13 lately?

I've considered it but I'm not sure if it is worth the higher heat and the hassle.

Scrypt-N runs just as much heat and pretty much the same voltage @ half the hash rate of Scrypt. Simply not worth it for me until winter.

So, what's the hash speed in comparison to that of one of the more common algorithms?

EDIT: NVM.... found out first hand. It's faster than X11. This is another one where Nvidia really shines. Here's what I'm getting so far for each GPU: 290 = 6MH/s, 280X = 5.3MH/s, 750Ti = 4.7MH/s, 780 = 9MH/s. The good, yet also crappy part is that the custom sgminer released for mining this coin lacks all functionality for tweaking clock and memory speeds so what you get is what you get unless you tweak from outside the miner. It's also got the same diff display bug as one of the earlier versions of sgminer did so you will not see the diff displayed correctly.

Gonna give this a try overnight at least and see what the verdict is in the morning.

Wow, I didn't realize there was that much disparity between AMD and NVIDIA on nist5. I'm getting in the 4.7-4.85 range on my 750Tis (need to flash them all to the same speed one of these days) and just shy of 11 on my vanilla 780 (1150 core clock).

The cat's out of the bag, though. Difficulty has gone up considerably. Fortunately, price has followed.

But the price may not hold for long. It looks like it's dipping now. Dunno if it's the end of the parade or if this is just an intermission.

Yeah, I'm definitely not holding to find out. Cashed out when it hit 7000 Satoshi.

Oh, and it also appears that the modified version of sgminer used for Talkcoin also still has the "waiting for work" bug. On odd occasions it will enter the "waiting for work from the pool" phase and never restarts working again. I just had a second rig go down for hours because of that bug. The odd thing is that this bug along with the diff display bug has been fixed in later releases of sgminer. I wonder why the devs of Talkcoin chose this version to work with?

As for profitability, ya... it's definitely up over X11/X13... but like anything, that could change at the drop of a hat.

AMD guys on Talkcoin, try updating your drivers to 14.6beta. I'm seeing reports of significant gains.

Testing now.... thanks for the tip!

EDIT: Not showing any noticeable increase (or decrease) on the first rig I tried the 14.6 beta drivers on. It's populated with 280X's.

So, anyone have any tips on the next "new and exciting coin" to hit the scene within the next short while (preferrably anything but Scrypt, Scrypt-N, or SHA-256).

I know I said I didn't want to jump on the new coin merry-go-round again, but I've actually done a bit of thinking about this and I will try my hand at this again. If I can profit better by carefully picking and choosing targets of interest rather than sitting on a multipool, then I will go ahead and do that. Besides, I'm starting to get that feeling of excitement back like when I used to jump from coin to coin manually while trying to maintain a good profit margin a few months ago and all I've mined specifically lately is Talkcoin.

Fractalcoin? LION? Flashcoin? Anyone get that itch about any of these (no, not THAT itch.... I'd go see a doctor about THAT itch!)... You know.. the "itch" you get that says "I think this one seems different enough that it might be worth something"?

LOL, there we go!

I played around with my settings on the rig with the 14.6 betas and my 280X's. Went from 5.3MH/s to 6.7MH/s per card... yay!

Now to update my other rigs.

EDIT: 3.7MH/s to 5.8MH/s on my 7950's! This rocks!

care to share your settings? the 14.6's 100% broke my entire setup on my primary 290 rig.

On the previous drivers, I could have crossfire enabled AND mine with 100% speed... now? nothing.

Just to clarify, 14.6 doesn't work for X11 and X13 mining (and we're talking about it in an X11/X13 thread...whoops, sorry!). Apparently that driver broke one of the algos that's in both of them but it boosted groestl and nist5 (since groestl is one of the algos in nist5).

Starting to wonder the same now. Talkcoin difficulty is skyrocketing and value is dropping.

I will confess I haven't used it on my 290's and I'm not sure I will change it now. I think I'll be moving from Talkcoin to a new coin release later anyway.

However, on my other rigs (280X's, 7950's), I jacked the core clock from 1050 to 1100 (mem stays at 1500), removed any TC and lookup gap settings from my bat file and made sure to only have "g1", "w 256", and an intensity of 18... (I'm sure I could go higher on intensity, 18 seems to be a good balance) and that was it.

Gonna switch back to 13.12 drivers and try doing Fractalcoin (X11) when it opens later today. Done with Talkcoin as of now.

Fractalcoin and LION (both X11... LION opens 2 hours after Fractalcoin) open later today but LION's dev basically came right out and said he has nothing planned beyond the introduction of the coin.... he says he will take suggestions later. So, basically a coin with no direction, designed to fail after it starts, or could be destined for a pump and dump. There is no premine on it though so if it's a scamcoin, not sure how the dev would do it.

Fractalcoin on the other hand is supposedly to be 90% mined in 28 days and then the rest is I dunno IPO? PoS? or something like that... dunno the specifics. So if it is going to have value it's going to be in the first 28 days because it will be wanted by everyone just so they can have as much of it as possible hoping for a boost in value after that. That's my guess anyway.

Worst case scenario is this doesn't work out and I end up back on TMB doing X11/13 for whatever peanuts I get tossed from them in a day.

Not sure what you're talking about. 14.6 gave me slightly more hash on x11 and x13 than 14.4 on my 290x's.

It went the opposite for me... of course, I could have tried tweaking everything again on the 14.6 drivers to see if I could get things operating smoothly.

The sad part is I can't remember precisely what my hash rates were for X11 on the 13.12 drivers to begin with so I wouldn't be able to even tell if my hash rates were OK. At least for X13 the 14.6's weren't doing as well.

I'm in the middle of switching back to 13.12's right now which is proving more difficult for some rigs than others. I may leave one system with 14.6's installed so I can do some testing.

Everytime I switch of 13.12 I loose hash on X11 or X13. I haven't tried 14.6 but I dont see how much different they would be compared to 14.4. :/

Well that's not too surprising. Most reports I saw, people couldn't even get 14.4 to work with X11 and X13.

It's odd but I just finished reformatting the rig with my 290's and even with 13.12's I couldn't, for the life of me, get it running stable at the settings I had in my original .bat file. I have it on 14.4's right now and it's doing better, but I'm sure some of the changes I made would have been stable on 13.12's as well. Oh well, I think these 290's are about to go out the door anyway... or at least be repurposed as gaming cards.

Fractalcoin profitability was awesome a few hours ago, but the block reward halved since. I think what happened is people started calculating their profits after the block reward halved and found they weren't going to be making as much so started dumping what they had in order to try to get a good price for it. So, the value has now tanked, the block reward is halved from where it was at the start of the day, and even with half the difficulty, profits are pretty crap. It still might recover its value a bit over the coming days, but I don't hold any hope for it.

The dev of this coin was not really thinking when he designed the reduced block reward. This coin only has a 28 day mining cycle and even artificially induced inflation (halving supply to make each coin worth more) doesn't happen at the drop of a hat. So, I think this one is done.

On to LION now... which is an enigma at this time because there are no plans for it... there is nothing special about it, and anything that will happen with it will be entirely on the spur of the moment. I'm thinking massive pump and dump... but hey, anything can happen I suppose.

X13 profitability appears to have just skyrocketed according to Nicehash! On TMB, the top 8 coins or so are X13. Get in while the gettin's good!

Partly due to Flashcoin which was released today... only something like 12 hours of mining on that sucker though.

And tanked before I could even boot up the rigs. ;)

Ya, I saw that shortly after posting... sucks.

Well, at least it's still a bit higher than it was a few days ago when it really tanked. Of course that will end shortly here because Flashcoin will be done mining. At that point I suspect X13 will drop lower than X11 in profitability as everyone turns their attention back to Fractalcoin and Lion.

Probably gonna be a slow week it looks like (well, at least according to the Altcoin Calendar)... well, Saturday might be a bit of a small spike. Another X11 coin is released then (Linearcoin).

It also depends on when LION gets put on an exchange. If its value is worthwhile, then there might be a spike of interest in X11 as miners jump on it to make as much as possible.

Well, did ok on Fractalcoin early, cashing out my early mining proceeds when it was up around 0.0029. Just finished cashing out the rest as I don't feel all that confident it's coming back any time soon and BTC is back to $600.

Think I'm gonna stop chasing new coins for a bit and just mine the better algo of X11 and X13 on TradeMyBit for a while.

I don't see why people are so hot on LION. Seems like a total shitcoin with an, at best, half-assed developer.

Welp, so much for that. Jackpotcoin jackpot is getting pretty hefty again, so gonna try and get a piece of that. I'm such a sucker.

I'm with you... Fractal is on its way down again.

LION was good when it finally hit Bittrex. However, it looks like it went through its pump and dump phase so now it's probably going to be left to rot (unless it gets pumped once more just for shits and giggles). Block times are too long, and with 320 confirms, you can mine the thing and finally get your coins 2 days later.

After all that was said and done, my miners are on Nicehash since there are a number of people still renting X11 to mine these new coins. Profits won't be phenominal, but still worthwhile.
There's probably going to be another spike in price for X11 on Saturday... Linearcoin is being released... I have no real details on it, just that it's on the altcoin calendar so everybody and their dog are probably going to want to get in on it early.

I moved back to Talkcoin today... it's actually held its value on Bittrex quite well. In fact, its value has doubled since yesterday, but the difficulty on the network seems to be only barely creeping up. I guess it helps that there are new coins being released that take a lot of the attention away from the ones that they think are old news even though they already have established value.

I checked it out, but even with the price of Jackpotcoin gradually drifting downward, I'm still making about double what I would be on Talkcoin. Plus, Jackpotcoin runs a bit cooler.

I don't know if it was just today or if this is how things ran before, but once I got home from work, I had to shut down Talkcoin mining and move to something else... it was a tad too warm in here. Now I'm on Nicehash doing X13 (price spiked again) and it's a bunch cooler in here. I'm debating about shutting off my 290's.... they draw too much power, run too hot, and are ultimately too inefficient to really justify running continually.

Of course it didn't help that we had a warmer day today for once. It actually made it above 20C today. (Central Alberta, Canada).

I guess I will have to force myself to go buy more of those 750Ti's so I can ditch these 290's (well, not "ditch"... more just repurpose at least a couple of them as gaming cards).

I wish I would have taken a look at Jackpotcoin sooner. Oh well... hindsight is 20/20.

EDIT: Ooops... looks like X13 price dropped again and X11 rose... now on X11... lol.

Or not. Failed to launch! And dev hasn't been on the forums in three days.

there was a spike in rental prices this morning but went back down a bit. I had somebody rent a box for the entire weekend. I've been jumping back and forth like crazy with having some boxes off and letting them run. I'm jumping back and forth constantly based on outside temp and market rates. I need to just make up my mind and LEAVE it alone!

I've gotten lazy as hell, until it gets cool outside again I refuse to run anything except X11 and X13, and even then... I haven't had my rigs online for about a week now. Just not worth the small profit when it's 95F+ outside.

It's Texas -- so we are due to hit 100 and 110F days here in about a month or so.

Sell your rigs, rebuy them when it gets cool again.

nah - now is pretty much a terrible time to sell as I've seen prices falling and everyone else selling too.

If crytpo takes off again during the colder months, I'll be ready to just turn it on and roll instead of rebuilding 4 separate rigs.

Random: I've noticed on NiceHash with their suggested miner 5.0 some of my 7970 rigs will get stuck in some loop of "stratum new block" and difficulty changes, hashing the whole time apparently but not submitting (and not getting any rejects)

I turned 2 rigs back on for fun last night and pointed towards blackcoinpool.... can mine some BC there under X11 and cash out pretty consistently it seems as BC still has some value. With their pool I've seen that it's just solid "Accepts" all day long.
