I'm hoping I could get the XP-90 in under the rail without the fan on it. Then, add the fan on top after the motherboard tray is in.

The Zalman CNPS-7000cu I have right now fits just fine, of course. Doesn't do much for the heat, but it FITS fine. (Mobo monitor CLAIMS the CPU gets up to 78C, but I'm skeptical. A thermal probe on the base of the HSF is only reporting 51C under load at 2.5ghz/1.5v.)
 
How high is that thing with the fan? Do you know?

I am guessing it won't fit...but it might be close
 
I don't know how much help it is, but I can fit a SP-94 mounted to my P4 under the rail with a 92mm Panaflo H1A attached. I have to put the fan hold down clips on after I have it in but thats not a big deal unless you have giant fingers.

No idea. Although the Zalman barely fits, and it's only 62mm high, so I doubt the XP-90 will (Newegg calls it 76mm high or somesuch - without the fan, I think).

Maybe the XP-120, though? That's only 63mm without the fan. Of course, I understand it's HUGE, so....who knows!
 
According to the Thermalright website the XP-90 without a fan is 75mm tall, my SP-94 is 70mm (with its fan) and it just fits with about 3mm clearance and the inside HDD support rail is level with the top of the case opening, your chances of getting it in there are pretty slim. You could always buy it and try it out, but it looks to me like its a no go without some creative modifications. Creative only because that support rail is structural in its support of the HDDs and the front drives.

I could rework the design for you in CAD, maybe figure something out to support it without going all the way to the back, then you could install the heatsink after you slide the Mobo back in.

Also of note, the XP-120 is 88mm tall with a fan attached (standard 25mm thick) so it will not fit either. I will need to strip my current computer down to get exact measurements but it also needs to have the case modded to fit. Looks to me like the best one to squeeze into a Qpack is the Zalman...

Unless you watercool it of course.
 
Well, the idea with the -120 is that you could put it in without the fan, and attach the fan after-the-fact when it's inside.

Indeed, you'd not even need to mount the fan flush with the HSF, you could just put it above the drive rail. The -120 was designed to pull air OFF the CPU (pointing up) instead of blowing down on it, so that little extra distance shouldn't make a huge difference.

And, if it did, you could always use electrical tape to make a duct of the space between them.
 
Hmmm, very good point. It should fit then but I would be concerned about air flow around that support bar, I suppose you could take a dremel to it and widen the hole. Just make sure its not too restrictive and you have good flow down into the Heatsink. Air is like electricity it will always take the path of least resistance and higher turbulance.

simple answer, yes. the xp-90 (just) clears the hd bracket when you slide the mobo tray in.
as far as mounting a fan, all you have to do is gut an old 92mm fan, notch it to clear the hd bracket and use it as a spacer under the real fan.
FYI: the mobo i used was an asus p4(p4p800vm type) other mobo maybe harder to fit
due to socket placement.
 
yep, will post them once i figure out how to get them off this cf card :p
 


PS: the xp-120 fits and will slide under the bar(with force :p ) but theres no room for a fan
without cutting the hd bracket.
 
sorry to bump an old thread, but can you use 3 hard drives with the xp-90?
 
2 on the side, and if you wanted another, you could put it in the 2nd optical bay, and I think I read somewhere someone put one in the floppy bay by drilling holes.
