x-qpack psu??

well today out of nowhere my x-qpack decided not to power on and I tried everything from different outlets to unpluging all the drives and PCIe card... the only thing i can think of is the psu went out from reading that they have crappy psu's...

is this common for it to not just power on? it never had random shutdowns that I can remember (maybe 1)

anyone think it maybe the psu? i really dont want to buy another and not need it...

Apevia PSUs are well known for being shitty. So it wouldn't surprise me that that PSU is dead. Hopefully it didn't take out the rest of your system.

However to be fair, try a different PSU and see if your system still boots up. If the system still doesn't boot up, the motherboard might be dead or the power button on your case is fucked up. In fact, test every single one of your parts in another PC if you can.
 
The easiest way to see if its ur psu is smell it because if it has a musky oater it's dead. But on the other hand if u just blew a capasitor on the mobo you may want to replace the mobo or cap etherway is easy.
 
Why on earth were you using the X-Pack PSU? You should hope it only took itself out.
 
well i wish i had another PSU to test it and see if it works but i dont sadly

i hope it only took it self out... so should i get a cheap psu to test it?

i only paid 200 for the entire system (3700+, 2 gig ram, 200gb hd, come crap foxconn MB and a 6600gt that i swapped with my 8600 gt 256 XXX)

Do you have a Best Buy, Fry's or Circuit City nearby? Just buy a PSU from them, test your rig and then return that PSU later on. If you buy the PSU online, you'd have to pay a 15% restocking fee if you return the PSU.

psu's don't always leave a smelll behind when the die. so that's not a way to be sure.
 
If you want to just test the power supply unplug it from the motherboard and put a jumper on the power connection.

Here is an article on it.PSU Jumper

They make dedicated jumpers and tester but I have used paper clips and bread ties before. (probably will get slammed on that for someone)

Then if the fan on the power supply doesn't come on you know the power supply is bad. You can also hook a fan up to it as well just incase the power supply fan went dead (which doesnt sound like that).

anything that relies on that PSU for power could be hit, especially if it's directly plugged in.
 
Most likely it's the power supply. I've seen quite a few come back dead, with the mobo still in good standing. The hardest part of this process to deal with is cramming a new PSU in there. I don't know about the newer model but the version from a year or two ago had a slightly shortened PSU. A standard size WILL fit, but it will be difficult - even more so if you get the modular connectors. The key is sliding the optical drive forward, installing the PSU and then cramming the optical drive into it's bay while a friend screws it in. :D

I just tried the jumper thing with a paperclip... didnt come on..

well since its leaning towards the PSU i saw that curcitcity have a discount on power supply's (just my luck)

The Antec EA380 should work pretty well if the Apevia "420 watt" power supply was powering your system.

I concur. Definitely get the better quality Antec Earthwatts EA380 380W PSU. Just hope that the Apevia PSU didn't take out your entire system.

the best part about that is the better 380 is not in stores, so should I just go ahead and try the 350? im only running my 8600gt 256 and the dvd+r and hd

The Antec Basiq is just that, basic. Not meant for gaming rigs for long-term. But buy the Basiq anyway if it's in store, test your PC with it, and once done with it, return it. Make sure you read that return policy.

the only game i play on it probably a couple hours out the week is TF2 but besides that its a HTPC for movies but is TF2 is to much load for it(or the fact that that 8600 is installed)? if so ill just return it for the better after I test it...
