X-Post....

The Airport is a reliable unit, albeit lacking in features compared to most other routers (like QoS). Right now I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato and couldn't be happier with its performance and reliability (and the features exposed with Tomato).

If you don't need QoS, the Airport might be a good fit for you. If you do, then look elsewhere for your needs.

I'm running a Linksys WRT54g2 with stock firmware, and it's ok. I've experienced, only with macbooks for some reason, that when multiple computers are connected wirelessly, web pages will stop loading though. I didn't do a whole lot of testing on this and I attributed it to the macbook itself and not the router...

Having said that, usually Apple devices all work together seamlessly, with minimal effort in some cases. If all your systems are Apple, I'm sure the Airport Extreme will work flawlessly. Like phide said though, if you like all the features available with other routers though, I don't particularly see a reason to go with the Airport Extreme. The only experience I have with them is the little bit of troubleshooting I had to do over the phone while doing tech support for the University. For some reason they are set by default to assign 10.0.x.x IP's instead of the normal 192.168.1.x like every other router in existence.

I replaced two dlink Dir 654's I had in the house with one Airport Extreme.

The signal was strong enough that it covers the whole house, more than one dlink would.
I've also noticed that I can stream HD content to all the mac mini's with no stutter.

I'm assuming the 5ghz N band is why. It's a bit pricey, but it is a solid router.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah I know it's pricey but I figure it has got the features that I am interested, dont really know if I need QoS and it is not something that I work with now, and will work well with the macs when we get the second one.

So here is my current network: Desktop hard wired into router, printer is shared off that machine. We have my wife's 13" Macbook Pro, my 15" Gateway laptop, two iPhones, a TiVoHD and TiVo S2 (soon to be upgraded to TiVo Premeire) and my Xbox 360 with the occasional laptop or desktop connected that I am working on for a client. The TiVoHD is used for Netflix Streaming and we stream videos between the TiVos. Wife uses iTunes a lot and watches a lot of shows on there and I play at least every other day (at least during the winter) on the Xbox. Everything is G right now, but with the addition of the N network I can connect my iPhone4 and the wife's Macbook.

School discount allows me to get the router for $159 and I have $150 in gc, so would only have to pay $10 + tax to get it and would more than likely sell off the E2000.
