X-fi xtrememusic, udial sample and clipping?

I've tested the infamous udial sample and I get "sirens" when playing the sample via foobar with the volume and wave level at max. If I decrease the master volume level to about 75% the "sirens" go away and I hear only the dialtones although in game mode I can also hear/feel a very high pitch 19-20KHz? with the volume at 75%.

Does this mean that I should leave the master volume at 75% to minimize clipping/distorsion or have I missed something in my creative settings? Does the x-fi still upsample everything to 48KHz?

I've tried both using S/PDIF and analog and get the same results.

Udial sample can be found here:

Interesting results. I ran udial on my X-Fi Elite Pro via Foobar and got no sirens, even at max volume output (tho that painful hi-end pitch killed 4 tweeters on me). In FB2K, do you have any resampling DSP's loaded? Probably not, but interested in you checking anyway.

That depends on your settings and mode. You can enable BitPerfect Playback in Audio Creation Mode and have no resampling. Otherwise it will resample.

I have also noticed the X-Fi Fatality I have clips at about 75-80% level settings, so I set it to a little less than that and everything sounds good. Besides, I can always turn up my speaker amp volume to compensate. :D

No DSPs loaded, just the plain volume controller.

So I guess that X-fi xtrememusic/fatality cards "might" start to clipp/distort depending on sample/music if the master volume is higher than 75-80% and the elite pro does not need to have any volume adjustments becuase it uses better components.

Hmm, that might explain the distortions that I've experienced with bass heavy tunes and the master volume at 100% with crystalizer enabled...

Thats what I noticed and thats why I ended up at 75% settings on all the input controls.

But...max volume on the overall master volume control does not cause distortion, it's onl on the input side.

I consider that a minor thing to set for all the benefits this card has.
