I have an xtremegamer card, but up until today I only had a 2.1 speaker setup. I just got a set of used Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers. got them plugged in and it seems things are working. If i fire up the Creative Console Launcher and try to test the speakers I get weird results. I've got it set to 5.1 there, but if I hit the Channel or Noise buttons to test the speakers, the sound doesn't come out properly. For example, with 5.1 selected I hit the Channel Button. I hear "Front Left" from the front left speaker. "Front Center" comes from both the Front Left and Front Right. "Front RIght" works properly, but then when it goes to do the surrounds, I hear "Left Surroud" out of the left front speaker and I hear "Right Surround" out of the front right. what gives here?

If i use the X-Fi CMSS-3d to simulate 3d from a stereo track it seems to work properly, I get proper noise out of the proper speakers. any ideas whats goin on here? I've gone through uninstalling the drivers and just installing the driver off of creative's site and I get the same issue. I'm using Windows XP x64

I tested the demo of Medal of Honor Airborne and used the 5.1 speaker placement test in there and I got sound from the Front Left and Right, but nothing coming out of either the surrounds or center channel. could this be a sound card issue or an issue with the speakers themselves?

I'd say unplug all cables between the sound card and speakers and test things separately. It sounds as if something was wrongly connected.

turned out to be a weird driver issue...finally got it fixed, but now i get some crackling and static in the one game i tested with it...medal of honor airborne. i don't get static or crackles while playing music though
