I've been having problems with my Creative X-Fi it seems. I get static quite a bit in some games and i've been having alot of trouble figuring it out. Well I checked my IRQ settings and both the Sapphire X850 XT and Creative X-Fi are on IRQ 18. I'm not sure but I think this may be causing the problem.

How do I fix this. I have ACPI enabled so I don't know how I can change it. I checked my bios and can't find anything where I can change that specificaly without having to do a windows reinstall or something.

A64 3500+ Winchester S939
MSI Neo4 Platinum
Creative X-Fi
200gb Seagate SATA w/NCQ
74gb WD Raptor 10k SATA

etc etc.

I'm not sure if an IRQ conflict is possible between PCI Express and PCI devices.

Yea I figured that was the only option but theres not really another slot. Well, hrrm On the MSI Neo4 Plat the furthest PCI slot from the power supply is a different color. I don't know why, i'll try and figure that out I guess and see if I can use that slot.

Well now that i look at it it looks like it could fit in the slot RIGHT by the videocard fan. It's not gonna get any sort of interference from that X850XT fan is it? Since its gonna be like.. less than a mm away from it if I put it there.

Well I have static in my sound in games with my X-Fi. I haven't been able to find the problem. I've uninstalled drivers and reinstalled and cleaned stuff out and messed with a ton of things. Nothing helps. I noticed they were on the same IRQ so ;\.

I have two 7800 gtx's and one of them shared an IRQ with sound card so I moved the sound card one slot and get IRQ 3 :) then problems disappeared but had to re-install sound card drivers and sound programs <groan>.

In short...went from IRQ 5 to IRQ 3 just moving a slot over on my asus sli board.

I'd suggest just moving the card around to different slots like mentioned above. That's the easiest way of changing the IRQ.

Yea i've since changed the slot it was in and got a different IRQ. I think it helped a ton with the static issue. Most of it is gone but there is still some noticeable static now and then in BF2 and some other things. Of course i've always had that with creative cards on at least 3 different setups / comps.
