What you guys think about this card hooking up with the logitech z-5500's? Any of you guys out there have this setup? Was wondering if any of you are satisfied with it. bumps good etc?

Thanks!

gn3ric, I had this setup and it was ok. I connected the x-fi titanium to the z5500 through optical cable and it was nice to have true 5.1 sound unlike how it was under my older x-fi elite pro setup. Because I lost the breakout box when switching to titanium I decided to plug my headphones (akg 271s) to the headphone jack on the z5500. At this point everything was going well. I could switch between speakers and headphones just fine but I did have to turn the volume up to max on the z5500 to drive the headphones well. I'm not sure exactly what happened (whether it was the x-fi titanium or my use of the headphone jack directly on the z5500 at max volume) but I started to have issues with the sound and it was a bit ago so I can't seem to recall what it was exactly... but I think the sound would just cut out for some strange reason, oh yes, that's exactly it! What happened was I would play some music (foobar) and the z5500 would say "dts digital" and as soon as I killed foobar the receiver would say "no digital signal". What's weird is if there was a windows sound (lets say emptying the recycle bin) then the z5500 would come alive again saying "dts digital" and output that sound but with the beginning cut off like it was too late in catching it and then it would go right back to "no digital signal". That was pretty upsetting to me so I looked at other cards and I managed to snag the Asus Xonar D2X for $120! I am very happy with it and have none of the issues I described above and everything sounds SO much better than on the titanium and they drive my headphones really well (I have to keep the volume low, heh). Anyway, I hope my experience helps you out a bit. If I were you I'd go for the D2X--just wait until the next price break. If anything I wrote didn't make sense forgive me because it's 3am and I'm tired and I should probably be asleep.

i'm using the regular cable for these speakers, do you recommend me using optical or what not. i'm looking behind the Logitech and it has optical and COAX. Should i switch? :X i'm a music guy so i like loud and strong bumps. i want the most out of these speakers. i went from a audigy 2 zs to a x-fi and dang great improvement, but i was wondering what else i could do to increase performance. 5-6 years on the aud 2 zs. PHEW thank God its over hahah.

Optical out to z5500 will get you better sound and I know the cables aren't too expensive... I hope you don't run into the same problem I had! Good luck.

Wait, what kind of problem? You had problems with optical? Can i go optical with the z-5500's?

I'm using X-fi Titanium with Z5500 over the analog connections and it's great. I listen to music, watch blu-rays, and especially play games. For my uses I'd have to say this is the perfect setup. I only wish I lived in a house rather than an apartment, so that I could crank it up to the max.

Have been gradually upgrading over the years and there was a definite improvement from Titanium to Platinum on the Z5500. I upgraded the card to get easy compatibility in Vista.

Update: well for some unknown reason the same problem I had with the x-fi titanium showed up with the asus d2x+z5500 combination. Again, the problem is that unless something is playing, z5500 shows "no digital data" and sounds get cut off towards the beginning of anything that plays through the speakers. (Note: I am using an optical connection) I'm not sure what's going on because it was working fine just a couple of hours ago...

Things I changed recently:

1.) Just a couple of days ago I switched from digital coax to optical (since I found a mini toslink adapter) and everything worked fine.
2.) I installed .net framework 3.5 along with corresponding updates (mapadd for HL2/SMOD) which required restarts and still I didn't notice anything but at the time I was using headphones so I can't be sure.

Things I had not done before:

1.) I restarted my computer with the speakers on (I usually switch back to headphones setting before restarting so this is a first) and it seems like right after the restart that the problem surfaced.

Anyway, I found a "fix" for this issue at:

http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=51_speakers&thread.id=11249

and more specifically here:

http://zecil.com/index.php?q=node/1

Here is the description:

"This utility is designed as a fix for speaker systems that respond slowly to dolby digital signals, this results in the first part of some sounds being clipped and only partial sounds being heard or the sound not being heard at all. This utility constantly repeats a sound file that contains silence providing a continuous dolby digital signal."

This is a really annoying problem and I hope someone finds this post helpful. I suppose the next step is to switch back to digital coax and see if that makes a difference. I'll report back later.

Update2: I switched back to digital coax and the problem persists... OH WELL... :(
