if i hook up my 7.1 speakers to my sound card

will i still be able to use the ports at the front of my case for my headset?

or do i have to unplug the other in order for the other to work?

If I understand your question, you want to be able to use connecters built into your case for the headphones, is that correct? Iffy situation, you would need to find a schematic to try and figure out what pins to connect to for headphones. Otherwise you would have to switch plugs on the actual card. A lot of speakers have a built in headphone jack these days, does yours have one?

let me rephrase it

i wanna be able to have my speakers and headset hooked up at the same time

speakers (Logitech Z-5300E) will be connected directly to my sound card (X-Fi XtremeMusic)

headset will be connected to the Case headset socket at the front

i'm not sure about your question, i'm not very technical with audio :\

i'll check to see if my speakers have ports on them (i haven't gotten them yet, but i will soon enough);)

Far as I can tell, plugging h/phones into the jack on the speaker console makes the speakers unusable i.e. listening mode is via the h/phones. This happens on my Altecs using the X-Fi. The Logitechs may be different, though ...

No, thats right ^^^. On my 5300e's, if I plug in my headphones to the volume 'pod', the speakers mute.

That will not work. With any Creative soundcard, the case 'front panel audio' ports have no connection and nothing to do with the soundcard at all. Those are for the integrated audio only.

If you want to have front-panel headphone jacks with a Creative card - that can mute the speakers and switch to 'headphone' mode when plugged into - you need to buy one of their proprietary drive bay devices.

Which can't be found by themselves yet... I've looked at eBay and straight from creative. Nada. I need one so I can roll xbox on my PC speakers/monitor. x2vga+ does optical, x-fi does not. Front panel does. Gotta sell mine and get a platinum or else sucker someone.

that's gay! i hate having to unplug my speakers and plugging in my headset

i'll find a way :)

yeah i found something like that

but it was an extension cord

i might just get a USB headset instead in the summer

except USB headphones kind of negates things since, IIRC, most USB sets basically have their own soundcard built in.

Yup. USB headset = uses own soundcard instead of what you have in your system. (I suppose an exception would be a headset just powered off the USB line, but still plugs into your soundcard....but that kinda defeats the purpose of your 'goal', here)

yeah, i read u don't have to use the soundcard from the USB

i love the power of choosing :)

and also, the software allows u to choose wut u wanna use for like diff programs (speakers or headset)
