Can anyone tell me some details on the X-Fi SB0770? is it a Xtremegammer, music or Audio?

Im looking at picking one up to do the X-Fi mods to (new oamps, power filter, and shielding) However, my choices are a SB0460 or the SB0770. I think the SB770 has some kind of dual chip that swaps between UAA and X-Fi depending on the driver... I also read that it needs funny drivers and might not be a real X-Fi..

What is the SB0460? a Xtreme music?

Google is your friend, for future reference

the 0770 looks like an OEM board, meaning it could have EMU20kx or CA0110, if it won't run with the factory drivers I'd guess CA0110 but who knows

0460 is XtremeMusic, yes, fairly dated board at that

as far as the "X-Fi mods", which board do you have a guide for, as I've no doubt the circuit layout changes between these two

as well, what do you mean "some kind of dual chip that swaps between UAA and X-Fi", you realize thats comparing a software design requirement to a piece of hardware

Google is my friend, but then what would forums be for? Also, if no one asked what would google bring?

So form my google searching, before I posted this, I found that there are very few details on this card xcept for the creative details for OEM cards. There are very few real tipics about this specfic x-fi, and most of the postings are useless. Most people have the SB0460 or other retails cards.

I wonder if the oamp mods will work on this card? I was wondering i sanyone had this card? Is it on par with gaming preformance compared to the other X-fi cards?

I really don't know about the mods for this card, yes you can probably modify it but you're probably gonna have to write it as you go
the 0770 does look to be like a Dell or HP OEM, so who knows whats actually on the board, I would venture that its a CA0110 processor, so I wouldn't bother if thats the case (if you can see the card physically just look at the primary ASIC, whats it say?)

the SB0460 is one of the old PCI boards that would've been sold as the XtremeMusic or Platinum (depending on if it has the remote and live drive), so its an EMU20k1 processor with 2MB of X-RAM, not a bad card depending on what you're paying for it

also, you can go nuts with mods:

the chips it has are:
CA20K1 (Top of the line X-Fi driven PCI audio chip with built-in DSP)
CA0112 (Companion PCI chip with UAA core logic for CA20K1)

not sure how those stack up...

found something:
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=99854

like I guessed, its an OEM, in this case, Alienware/Dell
however it does seem to have a proper EMU20kx and not the CA0110 that XtremeAudio shipped with, so thats a good thing
UAA chip for Vista logo cert (would put money on this)

it doesn't appear on the Creative list:
http://www.soundblaster.com/X-FiList/ (but your 0460 does, as previously mentioned)

but everything 077- looks like junk as they appear on that list

I generally try to stay away from OEM boards, they usually don't live up to marketed expectations

no idea on modding it (as I said, if you want to mod it, you'll be writing the book as you go), just get the 0460, its a legit Creative board, will work with the live drive out of the box, will run Creative's official drivers out of the box, and theres a mountain of modding resources available (just search for XtremeMusic or X-Fi Platinum, you'll probably get more results than SB0460)

Yea im thinkin SB0460 for sure. I do want a OEM card as it will be going into a Dell XPS 420 i got dirt cheap a while back. I want the special plug to hook up Dell front audio!

I have since put in a 2.83 Quad core, GTX260, 525watt Dell T3400 PSU, dual 80gb VRaptors, and now a X-Fi! :)

hmmm I won the bid on a SB0770...

Looks like I will be selling that one.. :(
