Well, setting your speaker settings to headphones in the creative console makes everything sound horribly muffled.

Headphone-cmss is great for positional audio but I refuse to use it because it requires headphone mode to be selected. If the 2 speaker cmss did the same thing that would be wonderful.

In battlefield 2 if I have sound settings selecting the x-fi setup, then I get horrible static noise, and I get wierd FPS drops.

World of Warcraft continuely crashes.

My system has now begun to get wierd hangs....


Update: World of Warcraft problem solved by reinstall with minimum install features. All other problems still exist.
 
sounds like the card is bad i just got one the other day evey thing work fine other then i had to install the drivers by hand the installer on the cd didnt work meh

id try the driver off creatives site frist then see if its still messed up take it back as try another
 
Have you tried the updated driver yet? We had that issue prior to the driver update and havent had it since, I think the issue was fixed?

What are you using as your test sample? What kind of headphones do you have? How are they connected? ANY kind of processing is probably going to result in some distortion. Perhaps your ears are just very sensitive to this? However, your static and crashes DOES suggest something is seriously wrong.
 
My wierd system hangs and slowdowns have been fixed after a format.

Prior to the format some of the wierd game crashing stopped when I reinstalled with the creative drivers and used custom install. I installed everything the minimal install has except the online manual and I also added Creative Audio Console.

But now after the format there are no crashes or wierd hangs, but I still have this horrible static, much like i did at different points in time with my audigy 2 zs and creative live 5.1.

It's extremely noticeable in games like Battlefield 2 when your in a vehicle . The engine sound has great deal of static with it. And other things.

I get the same problem in World of Warcraft.

You guys kept saying new drivers this new drivers that. But I went to creatives site and saw NO new drivers. I even ran the auto update and it said that I already have the newest......

Edit: I just checked again to make sure and theres still no updates except some MediaSource updates FOR WIN2k. I just checked windows XP stuff and there's new driver release and a web console release. They don' t have these new drivers for win2k.

I also kinda looked at my actual card and theres a spot on the back that doesn't look normal. I'll pull it out again to see if I can describe. Or maybe I should just pull it out and go to BB and exchange it.

As for machine specs:
MSI Neo4 Platinum -not sli.
Sound Blaster X-Fi XM
Running Win2k.

I have Sennheiser HD570's hooked up to the control unit of my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra's. And yes i've tried hooking them directly in to the sound card and have the same static problems.
 
ok try this CLOSE any audio aps change modes then change back see if that does it
i had winamp open and changed modes and it did that closed winamp and changed and changed back it fixed it
 
Alright well I took back the card and exchanged it for another X-FI XM. This one doesn't have the horrible solder point. Well the same point is a lil screwed up, but only just barely. The last card had a line of solder comming off one point. It didn't look like it was touching anything but it probably was.

Anyways, massive static from engines and all that is gone now. There is still teh same old static I use to have with my Creative Live and Audigy 2 ZS though. When there are alot of sounds or a sound thats repeated very quickly. You can really hear it when theres a few sounds going on and at least one of them is loud. Still have that stupid static.
 
another guy with an MSI NF4 board had a real hard time with the X-Fi card too. The post is in here somewhere. Maybe there is something inherent in the board that is problematic????? I dont know but the coincidence is odd???

especially since the MSI boards have built in Sounblaster Chips already which might be causing conflicts if not disabled. Or problems can occur if the drivers for the onboard chip are not removed first.
 
I never installed the drivers for the onboard, I disabled the onboard as soon as I got the board..... the first day it came out, and I belive my onboard isn't creative...
 
well, I play the same game as you but I don't get your results. Only problem I'm having right now is most of the time, X-Fi can't handle 2 outputs at the same time. Ex: I am playing WoW with the in-game music turned alittle down and have another line-in feed audio for watching TV. I can hear the game sounds fine, but the sound from the TV is muffled out. I wonder if they will fix this :(

try truning SVM on worked for me seem the line-in isnt as loud as it is on the other cards
