I've had my X-Fi Platinum for about 2.5 years now and I have enjoyed it immensely with very few issues, however in the past couple of months that has not been the case.
I first had intermittent problems with the sound itself in games such as distorted sound, light and tinny at times and some other times too much bass and gravely texture. I would have to reboot my machine to fix the problem.
Lately my machine won't get past the splash screen at times with the X-Fi installed. I would have to uninstall the card and reboot just to get into windows. When I would reinstall the card the machine won't go into windows. So, if that happens I have to uninstall all X-Fi software, reinstall the card, then reinstall all the drivers and software to get it to work.
I'm getting pretty sick of doing this and I need a better understanding of what is going on. Is indeed my card dying?
I'm simply running Windows XP MCE05 and Supermicro H8DCE mobo.
