right now i use onboard realtek module from my abit an8. I hook up the front ports from my p180 to the daughter card. It is my understanding that Creative has proprietary pins. So... the only way that i can get front audio is to forget about the X-fi XM and get one of the higher ones like platinum and fatal1ty? I use my front ports everyday for gaming and not having those would really suck. Is there a work around to still use my case's front audio wires on the x-fi?

You're out of luck unless you know what you are doing. You can manually slip each pin into the X-Fi's front panel connection, just figure out the pin layout on the wires for your chassis:

Pin layout on the X-Fi:
1 - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
4 - Analog Headphone Out Right
5 - same as #3
6 - Mic input from front panel
7 - No Connection
8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic
9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +12VDC when mic is plugged in
10 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used)

I found out the hard way the pins on the card are smaller than the ones on cases. This leaves you with poor connections held in place with some band or tape. Or making an adatper to attach to the card. I have seen a thread on devhardware.com on how to make this, but it did not look easy.
