I'm using my X-Fi Extreme Music too drive some Sennheiser HD555's, and when theres no audio coming through the line I get this strange, very high pitched, repeated beeping sound - like morse code or something. I don't notice it when I have audio playing - so its not a terrible hinderance - but its bloody annoying when it starts up. I think this has only started up recently, and I certainly didn't notice it when I first installed the card (not too say it wasn't there of course)

I have it located 2 pci slots away from a wireless card (so from top too bottom - Double Slot 8800GTS, D-Link Wireless Card, USB Header, Sound Card) - could I be hearing some kind of intereference from the wireless card?

I'm running an E6750, 4 gigs (well - 3.5) of DDR2-800 Ram, a Gigabyte DS3-R mobo, EVGA 640mb 8800 GTS superclocked, antec earthwatts 500w PSU, D-Link DWL-AG530 card and an X-Fi XtremeMusic.

Basically any analog sound card, even Auzentech Prelude, suffers from interference from internal computer components. The only solution would be to use a headphone amp, AV receiver, etc. Basically turn the sound volume up in Windows and lower it using the amp.
This way the you increase the card signal to noise ratio.
