My 13-year-old son is looking to build an AMD-based PC using the AM3+ platform because he prefers it over Intel due to concerns about IME and the vulnerability of UEFI BIOS. He is looking to buy some used pc components, I will handle the transactions for him. While he doesn’t have much money, he earns some by helping out with household chores, tuning up our piano, and training our GSDs. He’s aiming for a 990FX chipset motherboard and 32GB of DDR3 RAM (1600MHz or higher). For the GPU, he wants the AMD R9 390X or Vega 56/64. On the Nvidia side, anything better than a GTX 980 4GB will work. For the PSU, he wants something from the 80+ Gold rating and A/B tier list to ensure it lasts and doesn’t need replacing soon.

I have some PSU's and DDR3's available. Also a GTX 1080 or GTX 980 Ti. How much wattage for the PSU does he want/need?

I have a Asrock Fatal1ty 970, have memory, but no CPU (needs an FX series).

Also have an FM2 board with CPU (940?) and memory.

Also have an intel NVMe drive that could work with the 970 board but not the FM2 board.

It have more photos I’ll PM you.

I looked at your post about the GTX 1080, and he definitely can't afford it. As for the PSU, he wants a 650W or higher, 80+ Gold/Platinum rated.

I have a R9 290 and 980Ti with Accelero heatsink available for sale. Send me an offer on either of interested.
