this will mostly be for taking to class so notes and projects..ie mostly schoolwork so graphics isnt a huge issue but weight definitely is. sub 5 lbs is a must and sub 4 is preferred and 12 inches is preferrable as well but 13 can be doable.

minimum specs :
512 mb
1.7 ghz
dvdr/w
graphics doesnt matter

preferred :
1 gb
2.0 mhz

around a grand seems doable after pricing out new laptops tho obviously it will depend entirely on the specs of your computer. also i would like no dells or hps since ive had too many headaches dealing with both companies in the past.
