****Read edit number two.****

So here is the deal. I have a roommate who wants to play Sims2. Her computer can't handle it, 256MBs of ram and Intel 845 chipset graphics. She doesn't have a lot of money for a new computer however. What we were looking for is any "complete computer" that can handle Sims2. What will be needed is mobo, CPU, ram, HSF, and GPU. Budget is small, probably no more then $100. And thats shipped to 95966. Obviously we aren't talking anything even close to midrange, I was thinking an old setup that people aren't using anymore. S478/754 is ok, as is an AGP setup. LMK what you guys have so I can tell her.

I'm also looking for a way to hook the living room computer up to the TV. Will most likely need to use PCI, as I don't think the OEM machine has any form of AGP/PCIe. Some sort of PCI video card with Svideo or a tuner card perhaps? Not sure of the budget, but as always the cheaper the better.

Edit: Not getting a lot of offers, what do you guys have for around $100-$150? Realize at this price I'm almost better off getting a $50 mobo, $40 CPU, and some cheap ram. I'd end up spending closer to $180 this way, but she'd have a much newer system.

Edit two: Got most of her system, now just need the video cards. Still looking for a PCI card for the living room computer to output to tv, and the AGP card for her system.

Forgot to mention. MIGHT be interested in parts, but only if I can find all that I'd need. Total cost of all parts would need to be around $100. I simply assumed someone would have an old P4 setup they'd want to get rid of.

It seems like you might be better off getting the parts as it would be cheaper to ship. What kind of cpu/motherboard does she have or if its a brand name maybe you could provide the model #?

As for hooking it up to the tv, if you get a videocard off someone, it most likely has svideo

Craigslist is the best option for your price limitation.

I've been keeping an eye on my local CL, nothing yet. Xbox is out for reasons I'd rather not get into. She has some "issues", and has to use a keyboard and trackball.

Dark, what do you mean by "getting the parts"? She is currently using an OEM HP with only PCI slots. I know its possible to do this, I almost bought her a P4 setup on this forum for $75 shipped, but the guy basically screwed us/her. I asked for the PP address and he never replied. Finally heard from him after 4 days saying he sold it to someone else. Said I asked for address in thread instead of PM so he didn't realize I wanted it. Just hoping someone else might be looking to dump their old P4/AGP system.

I know a video card will have Svideo, thats why I'm looking for an Svideo PCI card. Or if no one has one, a tuner card. Thanks guys, please let me know if you see something on the forums that might work or if you have any other ideas.

I know to keep watching CL, as I've said before nothing yet. (there is a nice set of DDR2 2x2GB 800MHz on there for $40, I'm tempted to get them.) I'll keep watching there but I was hoping I might find something here as well/faster. Starting to think everyone dumped their stuff already. I also can't believe I haven't seen any offers on the PCI to TV card.

I have alot of older parts such as 478 mobo and cpu, RAM, and video cards. i will see what i can maybe come up with in your price range. I will let you know tomorrow (wednesday)

2x2gb of DDR2 at 40 bucks is a steal with the way RAM prices have jumped. Snap those up, amigo. :)

Had a couple of nibbles, but I'm not feeling good about anything yet. Still waiting to hear back from Decade146, he has the best offer so far.

if you have a Fry's by you, best bet would be a snag that ram or something close and pickup a cheap MB/CPU combo with integrated graphics. Should be enough for Sims2

I definitely have parts that could suit your need, if you are still looking.

Let me look through my stuff, and I'll PM a list of possibilities.

:)

Bumping again, and will edit the first post. Got most of the system, now just looking for the video cards. Still need the PCI card for the living room, and the AGP card for her system.
