I don't want to pay the full retail for a SATA optical drive, I want to switch from IDE to SATA...it'll be faster...right?

Doesn't matter what kind of drive really...preferably a DVD/CD-RW combo drive

Meaning reads DVD's and CD's but writes only to CD-R and CD-RW media

Make an offer! :)

SATA won't bring you that much speed, really. But you will get those thinner cables, which IMO are a long due.

the bus speed on opitcal drives is definitly not the bottle neck, so if thats a major reason your having to change over dont set yourself up for dissapointment

OK thanks for the info, sorry to waste time and threadspace...I honestly was looking for a deal, not advice.
