My original post was too long. I have since modified it to be shorter and less mind-numbing.

I want to purchase a headset for my rig in the sig. I play games, watch movies and listen to music. My motherboard has the Realtek ALC888B chipset, but I'm open to either a sound card and 3.5mm headphones/set or a USB headset. The Corsair HS-1 is basically top of my list now. Are there any other headsets worth considering?

To HS-1 owners and Mr. Keim: How is the sound quality with music? If the stock settings are unacceptable, like HardOCP itself thought, does a custom preset for music listening solve it? Your input would be greatly appreciated

Corsair HS-1 should fit your needs pretty well according to the review and Creative just isn't worth consideration anymore quality products and good drivers for me at least.

the lower end sennheiser s also don't sound great for the money IME even though i liked mine before they broke I spent about $200 on them and my sony mdr-7506 haven't skipped a beat since they replaced 'em till 10years later but for the price of the sony's you can get the corsiar's and have the mic and positional audio too

For me the creative cards just never just got out of the way of the function of playing music or playing positional audio in a game. It was always chipset issues or driver updates and bloatware just to get EAX working and hopefully not break surround form the "digital out" again.

The bloatware thing was something I simply do not understand. The software and driver installation was large, but we had absolutely no CPU hogging with a full installation of everything. What exactly do you mean? With a 1 Terrabyte hard drive, 350 megs is nothing.

With an AMD 790GX chipset we had absolutely no compatibility issues whatsoever.

We did not use an Intel board.
