ok, friend of mine wants a pc to do editing of audio on. he plays keyboard and guitar. I dont know much about sound editing software or the audigy 2 gamer things or whatnot..or even how fast the machine has to be to do it adequately.

He said he has $500, so just start listing specs of what can be done and i'll narrow it down..

thx

DO NOT GET AUDIGY FOR MUSIC. Get emu 0404 or emu 1212

I have a comp i can sell for like 275 shipped.

Gigabyte KT133A Mobo
Athlon XP 1700+ Stock cooled
256 Mb DDR pc2700
3 HDD's. 2x20, 1x10
regular beige case
300 watt power supply
17 inch dell monitor.
Geforce 2 GTS 32 mb
sound blaster live
logitech access keyboard
microsoft optical mouse

Its not the best, but you said he has 500, and 275 would leave him
a lot to spend on a better sound card. the monitor will cost more to ship if you need it

I have either one of these systems, add a stick of ddr ($30), a high end sound card($120) and a 2400+($75) or something and have a good sound machine and be in your budget.

ill let him know..looks like i'll prob advise him to buy on of the systems listed along w/ that sound card and he will have some money left to upgrade memory. monitor wont be necessary.

ill get back to you all shortly.

Until now, that is. The features and price of Terratec's DMX 6Fire 24/96 put it in direct competition with the Audigy Platinum. It offers support for an impressive list of 3D gaming formats, though not Creative's latest EAX Advanced HD, which may disappoint the most fanatical gamers. It also includes three analogue outputs, which, along with the bundled copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD 3, provides Dolby Digital decoding for surround DVD soundtracks. The card can also pipe raw Dolby Digital and DTS signals to speakers with internal decoding.

compared to the audigy platinum. why not just get an audigy platinum
