WTB: 8GB DDR3 laptop stick and SATA SSD

Looking to help out a girl heading to grad school with a couple laptop upgrades so she doesn't have to buy a new one. Need an 8GB DDR3 ram stick and a SATA SSD in good shape for not a ton of money. Let me know what you have.

I assume so-dimm for the laptop any brand preference? what speed? can it take DDR3L?
What size sata ssd? what form factor 2.5", m.2?
 
Sorry, 2.5 on the drive; I forgot just saying SATA doesn't specify. Not sure on the ddr3L.
 
Amazon has this 500gb for $48.45 (15% off $56.99) - solid choice and and about as good of a price as a used drive.
