Things just started happening a few weeks ago. here are a few examples:

1. when turning on machine, it would show me the bios scren for my 9700pro and id have to reset.

2. spontanious reboots after playing games for 30mins
3. once in a while it would only boot up with 1/2 the memory (have 1gig)(same modules)
4. lately it wont reset when resetting under windows or computer. only turn off and back on again to get it to go.
5. sometimes when it boots up, the screen stays black and the HDD light stays on. no beeps or nothing.

the PS is the enermax 450W (im thinking its this cause i cant even read the voltage with a volt meter) the cpu is new, memory is new, motherboar is the MSI KT3 ultra2 (a bit older that doesnt support pc3200 which is in there right now, 2x512) hard drive is last year.

yet when i run any tests whatso ever, there are no errors. ram memtest and ZERO errors, ran burnintest at 100% on all components and no errors, can loop 3dmark a dozzen times(if i wanted)

im stumped. motherboard monitor and bios say my volts are within 3%. I have no idea what it can be...

any help is appreciated..thx

forgot to say that memory is set to SPD, and even put the FSB back to normal.

so the problems are still there with no overclocks anywhere and memory timings totally relaxed. all drivers are updated, no virus's found and ZERO spyware

Run memtest86 for a few hours. Update the motherboard BIOS. Check for Windows updates. Report back.

done done and done. even registered burnintest and ran it for 2 hours with ZERO errors with everything running at 100%

im thinking its the power supply when you turn it on its not handling the surge of power off the bat. anyone else?

that seems weird, 450W should be plenty for your system especially quality from enermax. so you've elminated the ram possiblity, do you have any extra hardware u could swap in and out?

would it have anything to do with how many things i have plugged into 1 powerbar and how many things are plugged into that outlet?

could it be the power supply flaking out and not handling the surges?

EDIT: my voltage is at 2.8 (board max) would it help if i lowered it to just normal? its not even running at spec (my fsb is only 166 and its pc3200 memory) brand name Shikaram

It might be the motherboard. I have the same exact problems with the LeadTek K7NCR18D motherboard. I swapped it out for another-- problem solved.

I've seen weird problems clear up when people switched electrical outlets.

Do you have another psu to test? Temporarily remove unnecessary components to test.

Have you tested with your side case door off? "might" be a heat issue.

As stated prior, your mobo "might" be the culprit BUT you may want to run memtest longer (mem+mem controller)

disable all agp performance options in bios and video control panel: fast writes, vpu recover etc etc

Tried alternate mobo drivers yet?

I would lower that vdimm voltage because some ram can't stand it that high.

check back with any new findings.

if you can plug it into another outlet and see what that does for you. it may be that your psu isnt being alowed to get the power it needs when it starts up, granted it could be 20 other things too but give that a try b/c its easy to do.

to add to this problem, sometimes when it boots up, there is a blank screen and the HDD led stays on with no beeps at all.

seems like my computer doesnt like cold boots anymore. I have to cycle the power in the back and reset a few times in order to get it to work.

i wonder if its the motherboard?

also sometimes when i boot up, all i see is the AMI bios picture and nothing else. other times when i boot up, all i see is the bios screen for the video card. go figure

anyone else think its the motherboard or the power supply? PS is about 3 yrs old and mobo is about 3 yrs old as well.. everything else in system is pretty much new

Possible culprits:

- bad PSU: try a different PSU.
- bad power: try a different outlet and/or get yourself an UPS.
- bad mainboard: strip down the system to a minimal configuration and use known good components (PSU, RAM, CPU, videocard).
- something else: if you can't get the minimum configuration working, and the mainboard is fine, replace components until it does work.
