Why am I getting this message?

My server is running WSE 2012, plain, NOT R2, and I'm getting the above message. The server backup drive is a 8 TB USB 3 drive and has 4.6 TB free. My main data partition has 2.6 TB which rarely changes - the only real change being the workstation backup.

I've checked Technet and Google, and I'm obviously not putting in the right search terms.

So why am I getting this message?

What does running vssadmin list shadowstorage show? My guess is that you're close the allotted shadow copy space.

Maybe I'm not giving it enough time, but if I issue any VSSADMIN task other than help, it just sits there until I press Ctrl-C.

I tried again and got:

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>vssadmin list shadowstorage

I'm wondering if there's a 2TB issue?

Are you using MBR instead of GPT? The maximum size of an MBR disk is 2TB.

It was set up by Windows Server backup. It's listed as a Basic Disk in Disk Manager. The 2 TB limit is only for boot drives.
