WRT54GS not working

I have this Linksys WRT54GS router someone wants help setting up. It would seem it doesn't do a wired connection with full capability. I tried the 5 second factory reset but that didn't get access to the router either. I don't know the history of this thing so I am wondering if there is any way to force some kind network connection or is this a lost cause?
 
Couple of possibilities:

  1. It's bricked. Someone tried to load a firmware and it didn't work.
  2. Not holding the reset button long enough (even I've done this before).
  3. It's dead, dead. Can you connect to it wirelessly? Lighting up when you plug into it?

You could try using Wireshark to 'sniff' out packets coming from the unit to determine the IP address.
 
Tried holding the reset button up to ten seconds with no luck. It's not there wirelessly either. Doesn't look like there will be a way to help this guy out other than tell him to buy a new router. Thanks.
