WRT160N... release and renew for any speed. Why?

I have a linksys wrt160n, it crawls super slow. I release and renew it, and it instantly goes fast again. Downloading 2 files from MegaUpload, I get roughly 80kb/s on each file. After the release/renew, I get 1.5-2.0 mb/s on each file (yes, for a total of 3-4 megabytes per second)

I'm getting sick of having to do this... does anyone know why I have to?

What revision is the router? http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Also, which IP are you renewing?

It's a static IP, all I do is release and renew it under "Status", and it instantly works fast.

And dd-wrt killed my old router, it made the wireless go crazy, so I'm somewhat afraid to run it again. but it's version 3 nonetheless.
