I just finished putting together my first build - after first receiving 1 doa mobo, and all I have done so far is install the sound, ethernet, and asus suite drivers.
After installing all 3, with nothing else running I decided to open the Asus suite and see what it is, and it was reporting my cpu temp at 95C (q6600 at stock). Could this be an error since I had to plug my 3 pin heatsink into the regular fan slot, leaving the cpu fan section empty?
I'm really trying to avoid reseating the heatsink too much since it has an adhesive backplate that seems to have lost its adhesiveness due to me switching mobos, and I just barely got it to stick last time.
Everything is still at default settings, so at what point would the thermal protection kick in?
I'm currently using a an asus p5e after I got a defective p5k, with a zerotherm nirvana (fan was on), in a Stacker 832 with 3 extra fans installed.
