I have an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard currently with a 2600+ AMD in it. I'm looking to buy a 3200+ Barton yet ASUS states this as working CPU's for this board: "Socket A for AMDR Athlon™ XP/ Athlon™ / Duron™ 600MHz ~ 3000+ Thoroughbred/Barton core CPU ready".

It's not the A7N8X-E Deluxe, or any other variation. Here's it's product page: http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X%20Deluxe&langs=09

So basically, will a 3200+ fit in my mobo or is 3000+ the highest it will go? Thanks!

a 3200+ will fit by why do you want to buy one? you have already overclocked your 2600 to 3200 speeds. If i were you and i wanted to upgrade, i would go with a mobile and get it to 2.5Ghz

Well, I'm assuming the Barton 3200+ will clock higher right? Mine atm runs hot, around 55-60C so I wouldn't mind getting a 3200+ and getting it around 3500+ ish speeds, no?

3200+ might clock a bit higher, nothings guarenteed. IMHO its not worth paying for the upgrade. AFAIK those asus boards will run any of the newer XPs and 1.08 bios for the A7N8X deluxe 2.0 enabled socket a semprons to be used too.

if you want a larger overclock, just get a mobile. if you're going to spend ~$200 for a 3200+ barton why not just buy a cheap athlon 64?

sori but i think a 3200+ is a waste of money, $184/210 (OEM/Retail) at newegg while u can go A64 with the 3200 at $208/215 (OEM/Retail) also at newegg.
sure you would have to upgrade your motherboard to support the new CPU but IMHO its totally worth it for better performance all around.

as for your high temps on ur 2600+ (barton?) what cooling are u using? what voltage is it at? what is the case temp?
but in all honesty, 60C (load?) isnt THAT hot. i wouldnt worry too much about it

if you truly wanted lower temps, you could go with the mobile series. A nice 35watt 2400+ would do you nice. at 3200+ speeds you wont have to worry too much about heat issues....that is if you dont get a dud that wont OC

It's 55C-60C Idle ;) Stock cooling, it's not a barton though. The 3200+ has the extra cache though, plus the 400mhz FSB which my ram supports, thats meant for something, no?

If your board supports 200fsb, you can run your CPU @ 200 too, just alter the multi to adjust for it ie run 200 x 11 and you have a 3200. I used to run my xp2700+ 333 @ 210 x 11 no problem at all.

So bring down my multi to 11x and up my FSB to 200? Will my RAM then kick in as 400MHZ FSB?

Yes. Your ram runs @ 2 x FSB speed, so 166FSB = 333DDR ram or PC2700 as its known. The CPU doesnt care what the FSB is as long as the motherboard can run 200+FSB and the ram is PC3200 or 400DDR ram you should be good. Just double check the multi so you dont OC your CPU by too much!

Okay, I'll give it a shot. Also keep in mind I have a Throughbred with stock cooling, is this still possible without burning out my CPU?

wait so what are u doing? i thought your 2600 is at 2.2Ghz already b/c ur sig says it is

You wont burn out your CPU as long as the multi isnt too high. Run at 200 x 10 to start = 2.0Ghz and if thats stable you can try 200 x 11 or keep pushing the FSB up a bit at a time.
