I don't get the hype with this game. I tried this game because my buddy asked me to, and I couldn't for the life of me get into this game... I tried for over a month. I mean I like large scale games, and I like RPG type elements like leveling and what not but I just don't get it... What is this hook this game has on people?

I play a large variety of games, like Oblivion, Final Fantasy series, POKEMON (no joke), and right now one of my favorites, the Fallout series. I did, however, liked the raiding part and teaming up with people but I don't get how you can ruin your life with this game...

Consider yourself lucky... the life-sucking demon that is WoW has chosen to spare your pitiful soul :p

That game is like a succubus that doesn't look good or put out... so what's the point really?

You need a game with an end. WoW has none, perpetual gear grind following the grind to 80. I play it still, but IDK why....

It has an end or endings.

your life.
your bank account.
your sanity.

just look at all the nerfs and fucked up ideas of bliz and say enough.

It's pretty boring. I've tried it several times, but was never able to tolerate the soul-crushing tediousness for very long.

Honestly, I never thought I'd really play the game. I did pre-bc for a short while. I had no idea where I was going or what I was doing. Besides ignoring everyone else.

I gave it a try again, pre-WOTLK. With the intention to play the game just for the lore and with friends. Some of the stuff is frustrating, like wanting to do Black Temple, or The Eye, but not having enough people in my guild to do said raid.

At any rate, the game itself, the lore and setting is fantastic. Like I said, some of the aspects are crappy, but make sense. I just stay away from the time consuming bs and stick to easily attainable items/instances. I'm hooked, not the 24/7 guy, but a good 20hrs or so a week. Depending on what my friends are up too, etc.

There is much more I could say, but not sure if it's [H] ok. PM me if needed.

wow another one of these threads. Ever heard of play something else then?

If you find it fun play it, if not don't or play very casual. Do what you want to do and skip the other crap/grinds. If you want a break....quit for a while, your account will still be there.

The main thing that keeps most people playing is to get the next level or item.
Some people are lucky enough to have a lot of friends that share a common interest in their part of the game and constantly group and have fun...
if you have friends that play, get a good voice chat program and have a lot of fun.

I played in BC, in fact, my first char hit 60 the day before BC came out.

I played all the way through BC, liked the game, i tried WOTLK and just lost the "lust" to play, lol.

Now i can't even stand to hear my room mate talk about it, annoys the crap out of me he is so into the game, and i just don't give a rats arse.

I have been spending time with vista, the witcher and dawn of war.

It has a very special transition from rewarding players which is enjoyable for most, into a large grind to keep getting rewards, those people who see the transition are going to pretty much leave early and get bored, those who cannot see the transition into extreme grind are going to stick around for a long time until they've got the best of everything.

Everyone eventually realises the grind wasn't worth, some its just faster than others :)

I think this is what my buddy is addicted to, the gear. He keeps telling me how he loves the grind and something about being a guild master or leader or something...

I don't mind the game too much, but I think it's mainly the art style and certain design choices I don't enjoy, PLUS the fact that it doesn't have an end and you just essentially do the grind for better gear.

That pretty much sums it up. 20 hours a week. Its almost like a job.

Well, to be fair a lot of people play video games for 20 or more hours a week. Just because it is WoW doesn't make it any different. You could say that about Oblivion, Fallout, COD, or Madden even.

ya know, i just don't get how people like coffee, i mean it smells awful and taste horrendous i just can't understand it! It makes no sense to me, i wonder why that is.

i wish my job was 20 hours a week, that would be nice.

I like to use this analogy with WoW to other people....

WoW is like a pile of dog shit....but painted with pretty colors. But under the pretty paint, its still a pile of shit.

Meh, was fun...but I was in college, so didn't have time, and didn't want to spend the money. Now that I've got a job, I still don't have the time (har har) and while I do have the money...I'd sooner spend it on things that last. You know, tangible things. Or non-subscription games.

Tried LOTRO and AoC...both were "meh" and I dropped them...nothing has hooked me like WoW did when I played the trial....but whatever.

No.. 20hrs a week is nothing. That's 4hrs a day, 3 if you include the weekends.

I wish I only worked 20hrs a week. Heck, I could even stand working a 40hr week.

Too true...I used to manage 20 hours in a week. Now I'm lucky to get an hour a day. One day, one day I'll go home from work before 6 PM again. One day.

Don't get me started on coffee... after having a part-time job at Starbucks to pay for University... I want to strangle coffee drinkers.

I too wish my job was only 20 hours a week... right now I average 60 - 70 hours a week working...

Hmm, i would go with wow is like a pile of shit, flies flock to it.

It's really only fun when RL friends are playing. I played since day one, but lack of time, and friends quitting has made me completely abandon the game.

Make no mistake, it's a fun, polished game. Just get some friends together and play.

all my rl friends have quit WoW
i like to read up on statistics progression of raiding

occasionally go on warcraft movies watch pvp movies or something
keep up with class changes

then i annoy the crap out of them by saying "so hows WoW?" , then they're like, "I DONT PLAY WOW!"
i'd play if i had the 15 a month to spend... but i don't lol

WOW-FREE 1 YEAR!

I've been playing since launch and still addicted to it. I only PvP though (some 5 mans with a friend or two from time to time).

PvP in this game (and many disagree) is the best than in any other game. As a matter of fact, I don't even like MMOs and I tried all the popular ones. Yet this one got me hooked the moment I logged in. PvP here makes me shake in real life, no joke. It's really thrilling (especially when you're geared well and a bunch of welfare guys try to take you down).

I did quit before WoTLK came out because I lost touch with many of my old good PvP friends and sort of want to come back, but I don't have the money to buy the exp and sub again right now.

Sure it takes your life away, but if you don't have a life to begin with (me), it's a blessing.

In other words, it stinks. WoW, it will never be played by me.
