I'm considering purchasing the macbook (not pro) and putting a gig of ram in it. What I'd like to know is if anyone has an real world experience playing WoW on one. I wouldn't be raiding on it, and I wouldn't need super steller perfomance, I'd just like to know if I can catch a few levels on it.

Macbook owners, what say you?
 
I've got an iBook, and it runs pretty smoothly if I turn everything down.
I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but if it can run on an iBook, I'd bet it'll run on a macbook pretty well.
 
my friend plays WoW pretty heavily on his white macbook, 1.83ghz model with 1gig of ram. It seemed to run pretty smoothly last LAN party we had.

I'm about to start up my WoW account again to use on my macbook too.
 
I have a white 2.0GHz macbook with 512MB ram (stock), and WoW plays alright. There is some slowdown when you get to graphically-intense and highly populated areas, but otherwise it's okay for when I'm away from my P4 windows box.
 
Hmm...I hate to hijack threads but I was just about to make my own thread when I saw this. Whats the avg framerates people are getting when playing WoW with 1gb of ram? If anyone has any raiding experience (with like maybe just 2 mods, raid related) with this, it'll be great.

I read the WoW mac forums (eek) and heard that 2gb is the best amount for it. I've been considering getting a MacBook for awhile but also heard its performance varies ALOT.
 
Although OSX uses ram pretty well, I seriously doubt bumping up to 2gb will be able to make up much more for the GMA950. I find 800x600 (wtih 24x Multisampling, my only graphical splurge) windowed (800x600 stretched looks too ugly even with the decent interpolation of mine) gives ~20-25 FPS grinding in the starting zones. Back when I had 512mb, I logged on my 60 main in Org at around 8:00pm...not a pretty sight with a 5400rpm hd. I still haven't played much, so I don't have any addons installed yet, but I'll have to craefully pick and choose which to use (cough *Auctioneer* cough).

I wouldn't recommend trying to play a 60 much on a Macbook, unless you're farming and can stand the lower performance. For leveling a character, it'll work well enough as long as you avoid keeping it on your lap and use an external mouse (WoW on any trackpad is not fun, and even with 3 finger right clicking, make sure to get yourself a $10 scroll wheel mouse). Personally, farming/grinding is a lot more fun when I have a video or something else in sight as well, so windowed mode works pretty well.

I would not try raiding AT ALL, unless you have a very forgiving guild that can afford to have someone operating at half their capability.
 
wow runs plenty well on my macbook pro under osx, just having to hold down a button to right click kinda sucks
 
MBPs also have dedicated x1600s (despite being underclocked), that still makes for a quite capable gaming laptop.
 
I really didn't like WoW (I found it boring) so take the following as you will:

On my MBP 2.0, 1gb, 256mbvram I can play Oblivion at native res w/ Bloom lighting and 8x ASF

My Girlfriend's MB (1.83, 1gb) couldn't play the sims 2 at native res (I told her so, so she returned it :p)
 
really depends on the vid card for fps. 1 gig of ram really helps especially if you run any mods at all. I have friends who have macbook pros and WoW runs fine on it. I bought a xps instead cause it was more then 1k cheaper.
 
it will run on a GMA 950. You need to turn everything on low. It will run from what I can see, buts its only playable. Better bet is to buy another notebook with at least an X1300/7300 and install mac OS your self ;)

I have also heard (and this I can not confirm) that the MacOS will never dedicate more than 64MB to the video processor in the MB however under windows with windows drivers, more shared memory can be split.
