You kind of figure it out as you go, the first quests are un-failable so there is no pressure, and if I can find you in game I can talk to you there and help with anything else.

character names cant have spaces

Oh, another good thing about warlocks, you get a free mount at level 40, which would cost anyone else 100g, which is a lot
Druids don't even need mounts, their cat forms are pretty fast, and they get flight form at 70 which lets them fly without a flying mount

Anyways, once you get in game, hit enter to bring up the chat box, type "/who deathcloc" without the quotes. If I am online it will tell you info about me, right click on my name that comes up in the chatbox and select whisper, and then say something letting me know it is you

I got my wife into it and she doesn't game at all. Its something we can enjoy together for an hour or 2 a coulpe of nights a week after the kids go to bed.

Coulpe of hours a day isn't addicted. When I had an average play time of 9.5 hrs a day of EQ over a 18 month period, that was addicted. I have never let myself get to that level again. With WoW I play for a coulpe of hours here and there. I havent even had time to play in the last 3 months or so.

Most people watch TV for up to 4 hrs a day, and nobody would say they are addicted. 2 hours of playing games doesn't qualify as addiction in my book.
 
I have played WoW ever sence it came out, and have just recently stopped playing.

In my opinion, it is THE best game of it's kind... if not the best computer game period. Which is why I stopped playing it, because I completely lost my life to it. I have a wife and 2 kids and I'm going to school soon.

My advice is that if you do have a wife and kids and such, do NOT get into these kinds of games. Any of them. Not only do they require lots of your time if you want to be any good at the game compared to other people, but you will WANT to spend ALL your time playing the game.

That said, I really.... REALLY miss WoW. I think that when my band gets signed and we're touring, I'll get back into it and play it on the road when I don't have any other responcibilites.

Then of course there are people like my wife who play it like an hour a week and they are ok with that. I don't see what the hell is wrong with these people. It's another reality, another world... with it's own society and a freaking auction house. How can you just play one night a week??? AHHHH!!!

My wife doesnt go for computer games, although most Wii games she takes me on :mad: lol.

My gaming clan almost all play WoW, I personally dont have the money nor near enough time to make it worth my while, if my wife played maybe. I personally play Guild Wars off and on and Silk Road when it lets me join. Not to mention a slew of FPS games that are easy to jump on and off again.

I played the demo of WoW and liked it but knew that to really get into it I would have to dedicate way to much of my already little time to it.
 
People are quick to point fingers at games as an addiction when they're the ones either watching TV 5 hours a day or buying $15 worth of starbucks a day. WoW at least requires some (if only a bit of) thinking.

As far as WoW goes, I say try it for yourself before even taking any opinion too seriously. You'll find out for yourself whether or not you have the time to devote to the game.

I did the 10 day trial thing yesterday and put in a pretty decent chunk of time into the game. I'm at about level 6 now I think. It's pretty addictive. I really had to tear myself away after a while cause I had stuff to do. I wouldnt say it's any more addictive than Guild Wars though. I like it so far. Only thing is, there arent many people around. I just picked a random medium population realm. In Guild Wars there are lots of people around. But I guess thats cause theyre all concentrated in towns. I just wish there were more people around. Anyway, I'm gonna finish teh 10 day thing and see where I am at the end of it before deciding if I want to keep playing. I just really need something to kill my gaming time before the big titles come out.

One thing I noticed: The combat seems to be a bit more bland somehow compared to Guild Wars. Just doesnt seem quite as snappy and satisfying. At least not yet. Sorry if I sound like a Guild Wars fanboy. I'm really not but it's the only other MMO type game that I've played to compare WoW to.
 
WoW has a 10 day free trial, download the installer for free from somewhere like www.gamershell.com and patch the game up, then get a trial account and fire it up for 10 days.

If you like it then you can just pay online for a key and your trial account will be upgraded automatically, alternatively you can buy the game from a store to get the discs.

A lot of people will tell you the game starts at level 60 and that you need to devote hours into getting really good kit and all the rest of it, but I've been casually playing through the quests and enjoying a lot of solo play for the past week.

The game also doesn't require any real twitch skills, or fast reactions or a good aim, so if you're new to the PC gaming scene it gives you a title you're able to pick up and play well, the game eases you into the gameplay by giving you some simple quests to start with and walking you through the basics so you can't go too far wrong.

If you wish later on when your character gets good, you can join in 40 man raids and join guilds and play more seriously, thats 100% optional though.
 
Well, we started it up last night. CodeX was awesome and met my wife and I ingame and gave us a tour. He showed us how to do some stuff, and even took the time to escort my night elf wife to my human settlement on the complete other side of the world so that we could play together. We had a great time, and will probably subscribe. We are about to get online now and play some more.
 
Yeah WoW can be a great game. I have played it steadily from closed beta up until about 3 months ago. Recently, with my masters program coming to an end quickly and planning a wedding I just find myself not having the time to play so I have recently suspended my account. It is a great game but you can get very lost in it and like Ripskin my wife does not do computer games but seems to dominate me at our Wii.:D I have buddies that live in another state so it is our way of keeping in touch and being able to do something with one another. I have been to many servers but I have spent the most time on Medivh (we are west coast based but we all picked and East coast server for some reason?!)

Anyways, it IS a great game and you will have fun no matter what you do in it, but be ready to see time slip away as it is very time consuming, hell even just getting from one place to another can take upwards of 15mins on a flight path!
 
I would advise against playing wow. just wait till august when bioshock comes out.

Once you get to 18-20 it becomes even funner.Once you get your secondary professions figured out it is even better too !!!

lol, yea I was gonna work some more ysterday but instead spent 4-5 hours in WoW. I got from 36 to 38 and a pvp'd a bit. Was quite fun, duoble XP owns :) I do not know If I should just unisntall the gmae and forget my password, or keep playing...
 
WoW is fun, but I would wait for future MMO's IMO. WoW was fun back in the day, but is now saturated w/ annoying n00bs.
 
Good choice on the Warlock/Druid combo :) A friend and I leveled up the same combo. Druid is my main, find it hard to play anything else, my warlock friend is now working up a Paladin.. heh. Taking some time away from Wow for a while tho, getting into God of War (yes, the first one).
 
I've played it a year and a half and i'm not addicted...(I think...lol)
I actually couldn't play for about 3 weeks and barely missed it. That said, i do only play casually and haven't been in any guilds as of yet so alot easier to just do what you want with no pressures. Been having fun trying to get toons to 70 then going to the next alt and getting them up in levels.
It can get addicting as was said, but as long as you have a good head on your shoulders and a mate who won't let you play TOO long, then it can be a fun experience especially if she plays along with you. Just my .02 tho...
P.S., Warlocks are great fun!
 
I have a level 70 undead priest and a level 30 undead warrior and tons of other alts level 10-20 ... I will tell you go alliance not horde, alliance are some of the most annoying people ever IMO whenever I play ally on a server they just piss me off so much, immature and stupid. Horde is where the action is trust me :)

You mean go horde? Anyway, it used to be that way, but things have changed. On my server allliance sucks, nothing is orginized, everybody just does their own thing. Horde camps Booty Bay and owns us, Horde plays smart and the Horde population on my server is way higher than alliance. I would roll a horde if I was to start over.

if you don't have kids yet... convince your wife to play with you.
the character creation, though limited, has proven to be an appealing touch for my S.O.

it's a control thing. they create, they control....
etc.

granted... (not sure if you have multiple computers or not.... if so....)
and you both want to play at the same time..... it would be $30 a month....

but the way we look at it is.....
go out one night less....
