I'm thinking of getting a 8800GT 512mb GPU and was wondering if there were any graphic mods for WoW that would really push the card? Right now I'm running a 7950GT 512mb and it runs perfect at 1600 x 1200 resolution with everything maxed. Any ideas?

Are you speaking about changing the characters and such?
No there is not, there use to be but you could exploit the game with it and Blizzard (original also) would ban people who were caught using it. Basically the game characters and scenes can not be made to look any better than what Blizzard gives you.

There still are character mods. You can have yourself as a freaking dog if you wanted to. But like dude man said above, if you're caught you'll get banned. In the end, not even worth the time of looking for crap like that.

If you want a game to push your card... Play something else.

Hmmm, not sure if I should get a new card then since I don't play much of anything else.

When I played WoW, I changed one of my weapon skins. There is no way you could get banned for that because only you can see the skin, and basically, you're just saving another file with the same name. The server can't detect that you swapped files. A few friends of mine did the same thing...again unless you hand out the swap file and have other players swap files so they can see what graphic mod you did (and word of this got out), you can't get banned. My friends would change their hunter pets into wacky bosses or mobs. Think Ragnaros or even Murlochs. Hehe.

Bottom line...have fun and don't tell anyone.

I know what the process is, I know that the chances of getting caught are slim to none. However, it is still against the EULA by blizzard. IF your account is known for having modded skins, your account CAN be banned. Simple as that. Blizzard doesn't need to look at your files. If they get a screenshot they can ban your account.

The chances though of anything like that happening are so slim it doesn't really matter. What he's asking for is something to push his GC, which wow will do at certain times, but not all the time.

If you can play the game with all maxed out graphical options without a slowdown there is little reason to upgrade cards.

You can get UI mods that add 3d character pics and such (like in party or target sections) that would add more load to the graphics card.

Who cares besides him? He just wants to have more eye candy and hopefully stress his system more. He'd have to do a lot more swapping than I did, however. I'm sure there're some high-res texture packs floating around.

I know, I know Bro. :p:)

I wasnt trying to be harsh or anything like that. But I still think the deeper meaning of what I said still applies.

Lets ask him.....

OP, if you could do this MOD, when all said and done, would you show your friends what you created?

Or, would you just keep it to yourself never having spoken of it to your friends or took screen shots of your work to show your friends?

After all, its human nature to want to share ones accomplishments.

Actually, now im curious if Michael Angelo (sp) would even have bothered doing what he did if he knew no one would ever see it.

The deeper meaning means nothing. The whole point of that mod is to spice it up for yourself. You get bored looking at the same shit over and over again. Little more interesting to be able to throw in another character than what you are and run around.

Say I played a druid, and I got the thing that turned me into one of those birds in terroker forrest (I haven't played in a few months) You can stay in that Terr form and still go into cat form, bear, and flight without changing forms. It was interesting. Granted others could see it, but most of the time I did it, was because I was bored, not for other people to go "oooh". Everyone has access to this item if you do the quests.

You are talking about the "shoddy arroka disguise"...

I think its only worth doing if other people in the game can see it really...

fail.. thats like saying what good is having good eye candy if you can't show anyone else.

Not true, in a MMO community many people play to "impress" others or to flaunt what they have while others do not. So if I or someone could change how I look and I am the only one to see then the benefit is very minimal at best, yes it may look nicer (but most mods for this actually just change the graphics without adding to them) but overall only you notice because you are unable to share.

yes but the op wants his game to look better, the skin mod is the best avail to my knowledge - seeing as how the op wants his pretty picture in his home my post still stands

Exactly, the op isn't asking for something that he can show other people. This topic is 100% for self. Even then skin mods are stupid anyways, everyone can use them, and the only real reason in having them is if you want to change YOUR EXPERIENCE. Not someone elses.
