While I was playing a game my video card seemed to just go crazy. It has good cooling but it may have overheated. All the sudden everything just turned multicolor. Now, im out of the game and in Windows and i see all these lines of streaking multicolor dots. I can hardly see what II', typing right now. Did i destroy my video card or what may have happened? Never destroyed a card before, so don't know what its like. Thanks

Wow! Massive Video Card Problems, please help.

Um well... thats like some pretty hard artifacting. Either somethings overheating or you OCed it too high.

I bought a connect3d radeon x800xl, plugged it in & got the same streaking mutlicolour dots.. phoned the support line & they said straighaway that the memory was defective & i had to RMA the card.
Maybe you killed the memory on the card.
That could be it.. Odd thing is that its perfectly fine for like the first 2 mins I turn on my computer and then the lines show up in the masses. That makes me thing it could be something else because it is at least proven to work fine for a short while. Oh, and this card has never been overclocked either.

Memory probelms don't always surface right away. I had a laptop that was fine for a year, then all a sudden had all sorts of memory problems.Krycek1 said:That could be it.. I have had this card since about 1 month after the 9800 pro came out which was some time ago. Also, it may have overheated and broken but it is not because of overheating right now because I gave it plenty of hours and it still does it. Seems like it must be the video card.
Does anyone know what I do to RMA it? I don't even know where to begin. Never had to replace a defective card before.

I just contacted the shop i bought it from & they gave me a returns no., sent back the card & replacement arrived a few days later... seemed like it took forever, but then i have no patience!
I already got the RMA info and everything. Before I send it, should I make sure its not the one stick of System memory that became defective. Is it worth a try to use a different stick of memory and try again or is it too likely that it was the Video card memory problem. thanks.

I replaced my system memory and it still continued which means it is the Video card mem. I have it all ready to RMA. Thanks for the help. I ll post about my experience when I get it back. Thanks
It is always a good idea to have a spare video card, one that you can simply plug into the slot and turn on the system.
Otherwise a card that can use the same drivers you have in the OS right now.
It doesn't have to be an expensive card.
You can try to find a used card of the same mfg as the one you are RMA'ng.
