My Woodcrest 2.0 Xeon runs at 10c in my dell poweredge 1900 :eek: :eek: :eek:

Thought id share this is really wow.!!

Unless the room temperature is below 10C, your temps aren't actually 10C. If you're blowing air over a heatsink, whether it's water or air cooled, you can't cool something below room temperature. I saw some inside pictures of the chassis on Dell's website, and everything looks to be air cooled. Mind you, there's a lot of fans, and it looks well cooled (should be considering it's a server!), but I think you have a faulty chip reading unless it's supercooled.

It could be, but I didn't find anything on that. But hey, you own it, you tell us how it's cooled. :)
 
Yes, you should open the case and give us the pictures. That is unbelievable to be honest, what type of processor do you have?

And I checked another (Second Machine) poweredge 1900 (same specs) that is in a more confined room its getting 15c so what your saying is all woodcrest 2.0's have bad temp sensors cool thank you for that info :rolleyes:
 
But Liquid Nitrogen would be -300 probably if its at 10c normally...

Got any other programs to check temps, or just take it apart and touch it if its really 10c then it won't burn but of course theres then no cooling so yeah...

Please see my original post. If all woodcrests are reporting that their temps are below ambient temperature without phase change cooling then yes, they are broken.

Does anyone learn simple fucking physics anymore? Christ.

uh actually this might be possible, its a cool chip that doesnt generate a lot a heat, and that cooling system in the dell is awesome! it looks freaking sweet. and my cpu is cooler than my room when the case is closed and under load, then when i take the front panel off so the 120mm fan can get more air into the case it drops to the 20's, and this is all in a sff case:D

uhhh...actually it's not possible unless the ambient temp in the room is at about 40 F then I might believe it (10c* 1.8)+32=50 F, so you are telling me that his processor is running at 50 degrees F...come on people use some common sense.

room temp was around 50 something degrees when i took the reading off coretemp

No. It is not possible, unless the ambient temperature at this poster's location is near the freezing point. Please go pick up a physics book. Read it cover to cover. It will do you better than reading these forums.

50C or 50F. 50F is pretty chilly. Hope you're wearing gloves while you type. Wouldn't want you to catch cold.
 
He's looking at the wrong temperature reading, and/or the sensor is broken.

Last nights temp in my area was low 50's :eek: All im reporting is what coretemp is showing this is on two different servers with same specs in two remote locations
 
MBM5 on my Laptop reports my CPU temp as -20C. Should I believe it?

I get what your trying to say. Only reason I believed it was cuz it was unusually cold in my area, and i was getting the readings from two seperate machines.. I was just gonna assume it was -/+ a few degrees from core temp
 
I cant stop laughing at this thread. Why do some people not see that you simply cannot cool something with room temp air any cooler than the room itself? Please wake up.

It's definitely not +/- a few degrees. it is probably off by 20+degrees C. Now you know.

....even if it were quote "50 something" in the room the CPU is still going to be warmer than the room temp...to which you reported 10C which is equal to exactly 50F....it would have to be 40F or lower in the room before I would even start to consider it true....you have a bad batch of diodes, it happens. But before you post a "OMG I h4v3 teh uB3r CPU t3mp" thread you have to use common sense because people are gonna call you on it....

But yeah like everyone else said.. your cpu cannot possiby cool your cpu lower than ambient temp (unless you have some kinda massive fan capable of changing pressures dramatically)

Unless your cpu sucks up heat somehow
